DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

I was under the impression that the apv 12-12 needed ac voltage from the wall. Just to be clear, are you saying I should connect a voltage switcher in between the wall and the apv and try to alter the voltage going to the apv? Sorry for the dumb questions....I need to do more research.

Yeah. That's what I drummed up. Might not work though. All I know is I have an old wall charger thing that allows me to switch h between those 4 voltages and I used to use it on pc fan's and it would slow my fan speed down every switch.

Does meanwell make an inline step down converter/transformer??? Want to step down to 110v for a lpc 150-2450?

If I were to use the adapter in that link I would no longer need the apv 12-12, right? I just want to be sure before I spend more money. Thanks for the help guys.

120w to power 4 PC fans? Not sure we're all on the same page here. I already have an hlg for the cobs, I just want to lower my fan speed and I already have the apv to power them. Could I just do one of these instead of the apv on a wago connector to split the current between the 4 fans and adjust them all that way?

Yes. If you plug your fans into an outlet like GreenGenes build video shows, this would work flawlessly.

I happen to have qty of 5---(85-100v)0.55-0.65amps,50watt drivers.
Would these power a 72volt 3590 if I put a few smaller LEDs to eat up extra voltage?

If you're saying it's MAX output Voltage is 100, then you could run 3of them where at 500-650mA's the forward voltage is around 32-33v. But you're only running your cobs at 15-16watts. Theyll work for sure. Just won't be that impressively bright. Some other people would say it'll work great. But if you run that low of wattage, you need many more cobs to make up for it, which you could do at 3 each X 5 = 15 3590's It'd Be about A 225-230WATT Set up.

My bad^ I didn't see the 72V part. But ya you could do it, and running that low amperage on a 72 is a lot better. Like a 36v on 1050 - 1300
mA's

wow that airwalker guy is giving crazy random advise

the cheapest way to lower the voltage on the apv woudl be to put your fans in series-or probably better 2 strings effectively cutting the volts in half

the apv requires AC input

yes the fan dimmer thing woudl probably work as well

Isn't it just a lot easier to skip the power supply for a PC fan and buy AC fans instead?
They're just like PC fans except they run on 110 or 230 VAC

He wants control. Not half speed all the time.

I really appreciate all the input guys. I got the apv because I'm trying to avoid any off brand adapters or cheap stuff that might fail on this light. This is my first light build after watching greengeene's video, and then all of growmau5's videos, and then doing a little research and sourcing. I'm still VERY new and ignorant to alot of this stuff.
The conflicting stuff I'm finding is that some say pc fans with the pwm control need a constant 12v and the speed shouldn't be adjusted by the voltage but by the pulsing signal from the pwm wire (computer motherboard). I obviously don't have a motherboard in this light so I may simply drop the voltage and if the fans die I can replace them with ones that don't have integrated pwm control.
Mistake on my part, I should have dug further before buying the things I did. Ideally, I would love a toggle switch with half and full speed or even a potentiometer to adjust the fan speed the way I can adjust the cobs with the b100k. It would be even better to control both the cobs and the fans with one potentiometer but that's dreaming big on my part considering my lack of knowledge.

4 pin fans can be run on the 2 blk / red + & - leads with no issue
so not to worry about 4 & 3 pin PC fans any 12v charger will work
not all fans will spin up at 5v

Hello
I have 5 COBs for one Panel with Meanwell HLG 240 1400B. Wich resistor or pot (perhaps 100k Ohm ?) would u use? 700mA to 1050mA . Sry for my low english i am from europe. thx.
