Thanks for the replies. So quick I had to delete my response lol. Is a potentiometer a dimmer? Will the driver have blue and white wires?
It's a variable resistance resistor that is effectively a dimmer for this application...but they can be used for lots of other stuff. Yes the C1400B's will have the AC input, DC output, and two dimming wires.

Buying 100 of these babies is, however, a very large expense for me and the people at Arrow Asia aren't as knowledgeable as you guys, since they don't use them to grow with.

Of the above, they're all 3000K and I was planning on the AD30G bin, as it is 80 CRI and has a high luminous flux. I would be using these almost exclusively for flowering.
I would test run at both 1000mA and 1600-2000mA and since 100 is 80 more than I need, I would be selling the rest once build. The people I'd sell them to, would not run them cold, but at the 1600-2000mA, where I would try both.

The question then is basically just if it's the right purchase for us, which I'm more or less sure it is...

You're right I think, though I haven't got a quote from Kingbrite yet on the AD30G
At Arrow it's CXB3070-0000-000N0HAD30G @ $27/pcs SPQ/MOQ 100pcs, which is too many.
However, Kingbrite will do even only 2 COBs, which would enable me to only buy what I need, in stead of 100 COBs...
I'm not sure their price would be better for 100 COBs, but I guess it's worth checking.

So I'm planning on running xm-l2's in the veg room. If I run them at 700-900 ma, how many should I run per sq ft? Also, is the star these are mounted on the heatsink? If I need a heat sink for these, what would be a good option? Thanks guys!

Cool. Thanks Scotch. Yeah I was just beginning to plan my veg room so I could definitely look at other cobs. I'd love to take a look at your xpls. I found them on fasttech for pretty cheap. What driver do you recommend? What placement and what kind of heatsink?

Fasttech is where I got mine too. Longgg shipping wait but whatever. I Got Em.

Depends on what kind or space you're lighting up, if it's large enough it'd be worth looking at 3070s since they have a wide angle anyways. Less soldering.

Just a quick thank you for the cxa information posted here (supra and others). My diy was 2x CXA3070 @50w (one 4000k one 2700k) plus a few 110lm/w bulbs from osram for a total of 150 watts. I got about 1g/w (dry), vegging 4 weeks. The seeds were nothing out of the ordinary (dinafem og kush and cheese).
Next grow will be 3x CXA3070s.

I'm struggling to find any info on light spacing when driving at higher currents. I originally planned on 1 cob per sq ft at 1050 mA. Now I am leaning towards 1 per 16 sq inches at 1.4 A. I was going to build light bars with 4 cxbs @ 1.4 A without reflectors/lenses that cover 16" x 64", but I'm worried about the spread and underlighting the edges and sections between the COBs. Does anyone have any input regarding spacing? Specifically 12 vs 16 sq inches? Thanks guys!

This is exactly why I use the Alpine 11+ cpu coolers. The spacing can be changed at will!!

1 cxb3070 per square foot sounds like plenty @1050mA, and probably overkill at 1.4A.

I think you mean a 12 or 16 inch (side) square, cos 16 sq inches is 4 inches by 4 inches which would be way small and way overkill..
1 sq foot = 12"x12" = 144 square inches

.. and @1.4A for 16" by 16" sounds right if that is what you meant.

For 1 cob (CXB3070 AD bin), using Supra's #s (If I'm not too stoned)

- 1 square foot @1.05A will give about 18.7 Par watts per square feet

- 256sq inches @1.4A will give about 13.5 Par Watts per square feet
(For AB bin its less than 13 PAR W/sq.ft => forget it)

So the second option is probably a little on the low side, and doesn't have as good coverage, I'd go for the first ...

The arctic alpine 11 plus is a cheap favorite around here and what I used. Pretty much any decent sized cooler should work as long as it has a fan and adequate mounting area on the base.

Hello again gentlemen... I've been searching around and am unable to find what size footprint each COB would have at amps that are typical and frequent. Can anyone shed some light on this? For example: CXB3590 @ 1.4a 16" height creates 18" circle... Or whatever it may be lol. I guess I would be asking about spacing COBs efficiently.

Your time and answers are greatly appreciated.

That would dissipate 49W but as far as how much area it would cover, I would highly recommend either a lens or reflector to help define the coverage area and increase how much light gets to the canopy overall. Once lensed you can control the coverage area by changing the distance to canopy or by changing the lens for a different beam angle. The 50mm 90 degree lenses are great for 3590s and vero29s.
