@glassblower--Actually when you top a plant you don't reall cause shoots to appear. What happens is there isn't a top branch to get in the way of the growth, so in a sense you removed a obstruction in your way. Look at a normal plant and look at the bottom branches. You will notice those branches are there, but they are being drowned with shade from the top cola branch and therfore they won't get as big. Ed Rosenthal gives a great way to people on how to train your plants.

I know that after I topped, the two shoots on the bottom node have to grow straight sideways until they clear the foliage above them. Then they shoot for the sky. If this works out like I hope, I fill always top any sativa or hybrid, while letting the mainly indica type just do their short thing.

When it says "more tops with less and less beefyness"...could those tops be made into clones rather than just budding the plant a few weeks after topping?

They sure can, but remember the farther from the base of the plant, the harder it is for the roots to show. So clipping off the first and second node yield the best % of rooting.

DSCN0120.JPGKUSH.jpg to me it looks like you did just fine. if you want 4 tops just wait until the ones you just topped grow another couple of nodes and repeat what you just did and you'll be fine. the first pic is my kush after topping multiple times when it was younger. the second pic is the same plant now. about 30+ tops. they will be alot smaller than if i wouldn't have topped it but i like making bushes. alot of people have told me that your not supposed to top more than twice, but, i've never seen any problems...keep going and keep growing

Just top after the third node and then LST the branches down so they grow sideways and you'll have 20+ tops. I get 20 or more tops and I only top once. When you top at the third node you end up with 6 branches and each branch will give you 4 or more tops cause when you LST it to grow sideways the side branches on each of the 6 main branches grow up and reach for the light.
