design DIY heatsinks for CXB3590

Hi guys,

I am working on designing my own heat sinks for 3590. Attaching is a pic of 5.886'' From HeatsinkUSA with my poor unprofessional drawing. Any comment or advice is very much appreciated.

1-2: Good or Bad to add the short curve reflector thing on the side? The idea is to prevent the light leak. If its good, 1 or 2? 2 is curved, angles to be determined.

3-4, Making T shape thing connector, In case I want to put 2 together into a panel.
5, Make the base thicker from 0.27 to 0.375
6, make some small holes at each end of the sink for hanging purposes. Could make some in the middle too to tie the drivers.

Plan to make this 36 inch long for 4 CXB3590.

Thermal design
including......

Emissivity
Laminar Flow

some things need to be accounted for if truly designing a custom sink.....if just copying a design, best to AT least understand how to calculate a working baseline for Rth #.....aka going from .2 to .3" + base....resistance changes significantly.....

That's important 1st right? the actual "cooling" part, then designing to fit your custom needs....imho :peace:

Thank you for your reply.

That's why I came to here to ask people for advises, new ideas. Maybe one day if I have that much of time, I will go back to school to learn all the physics I needed to create a world class high tech heat sink for CPUs. But today, im just trying to make a Curved heatsink that hopefully works for some DIY grow lights.

these are some designs that my company does for other lighting applications. that makes me think if I somehow combine the heatsink and this light bulb cover together, should be great for DIY 3590 COBs.
