Even if the edibles did effect his mental state it doesn't excuse anything. Anyone that eats enough edibles to be effected in an extreme negative manner lacks self control. It's no different than one person drinking a shot of whiskey and another drinking the whole bottle. Is it more likely that the person drinking an entire bottle will do something stupid, you bet ya. It still isn't the bottles fault.
