Hello guys, Im pretty new to growing (finished 2 rounds, now in a half of 3rd round). I got a 8x4 tent, 2x600w HPS for flower, 2x400w MH for veg, 5 gal cloth pots, soil. In my previous rounds I got 0.5g/W. I would like to hear your opinions on how to get max out of this tent - especially how many plants and if I should top/lst them. Right now and in my previous rounds I went with 20 plants, I topped each plant and LST'ed them. Flowered between 10-12 inches. But I am starting to feel that im stealing myself ... I fill the tent widthwise, but the plants finish around 27 inches, and i feel like Im not doing it right because I got pretty high tent (6.5 feet).

Would 18 plants with longer veg time and with some training be better? Im lookin for 3 month grows - max 4 week veg under 400w, 2 months flower. I also have a small tent (2.6x2) with 100 watt light where I pre-veg my plants for the next round, so the actual veg time can be 6-8 weeks including sprouting.

To summarize it, I just want to hear some advices/opinions on how to get most of the 8x4, 2x600w, in 3 months rounds with a small pre-veg tent.

I am currently at a similar stage. I have been running a 12 plant ebb and flow system in a 5x8 area with 2 1000w hps. I have been getting about 4-5 lbs. 1800-2200g. My goal is 6lbs. I am going to adjust things a little and make it 4.5' x 9'. I have 2 different designs drawn up. 18 plants. 20200724_133221.jpg
2.25 ft2 per plant. OR
24 plants. 20200724_133146.jpg
1.7 ft2 per plant.
I figure with 24 plants, I can cut veg time to 2-4 weeks. Save electricity and with 100% increase in number of plants I think I can reach my goal. 6lbs total (2688g)
Does anyone have some advice or suggestions?

Lol, I did didn't I? Sorry about that @dominic9. I started out in soil just like you. I tried to make my area larger and it was a fail. To much wasted space. So I switched to hydro and it helped my yields a bunch. Now I am trying to condense my plants, similar to what you are doing now. My best advice is concentrate on getting your environment perfect. Temp, humidity, amount of light, 50 watts per ft2, etc.... good luck man, growing is contagious, I love it

More light will = more weight, but it gets more expensive to control the heat of 2000w vs 1200w. Bigger fans with more air flow, and A/C is a must if you want to run in the summer. I don't know how much longer I can hold out on upping my game to LED. The nice ones are so damn expensive I just can't pull the trigger yet.

I think I got a good airflow, one big extraction fan, got negative pressure in tent + 3 fans blowing around. I can keep my temps around 75-77F in veg, and around 80F in flower, also got a fresh air from outside blowing into growroom, plants growing healthy. I know more wattage would get me more bud :D but that wouldt solve that i wanna get closer to G per watt.

Shrink your space. You have 32 ft2 with 1200 watts. 37.5w per ft2.
In a 6x4 space it will increase to 50w per ft2.

Id just like to hear from a more experienced grower if 18 plants, 3 weeks pre-veg incl sprout under 100w then 3-4 weeks under 2x400w, total vegtime 7 weeks, topped once and than LST, flowered around 15inch

Or

20 plants with total veg time of 5 weeks, toppee once, LST, flowered at 10 inch

You are impressed with my results but you didnt like my advice so now I'm not experienced? Started outside years ago, the sun makes it easy, and have been inside almost 10 years now. Have fun learning.
