Definite Nutrient Overdose

It's my first time growing and I live in an apartment with 3 other guys. One of our friends needed to get rid of a plant, believe it, which hadn't been taken care of very well. He gave us a bottle of nutrient mix and it turns out both me and a roommate have been doubling up the plant (and also doing it too often, now that I've read the forums - if only I'd read these before) for probably the last week. I noticed it kept looking worse and worse as time went on.

I believe the plant is probably around a month old, maybe a little older. It's burning at the tips, turning yellow - I know this is the problem.

My question is: to fix it I should flood the roots out with water and then put the plant back into new soil? Will this work even at this plant's stage of life? I mean, there are still new leafs coming up - they just don't look too healthy.

Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

Don't ever remove what the plant is growing in from the roots, you'll shock or possibly even kill the plant. If you've been using too much fert, simply flush the container the next time you water with 3 times the volume of the container with nothing but pure water. MAKE SURE that your soil doesn't already come mixed with fertilizer, or else flushing like that will only worsen the problem. The best thing you can do if that's the case is to simply stop feeding nutrients to the plant until it recovers then start again feeding it with 1/4 nutes and slowly increase the strength.

Well the soil has fertilizer mixed into it already so I guess flushing it is out of the question. Guess it's back to good ol' water.

Thanks guys.
