Deficiency! Could I be doing better? Healthy looking plants

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what is going on with these 3 plants? Their strain/gender is unknown and they have been in veg for 5-6 weeks now. The problem has started from the bottom and is working its way up. What could it be?

Basic Info:

Lights: 18/6 CFL's about 2-4 inches away from the planets
Nutes: S.H. Nutes (I think this may be the issue. Seems like the plants are eating different nutes at different rates even tho roots are tangled. Leading to deficiencies)
PH: 5.3-5.9
DWC with 8-gal res with Tap water and nutes up til 6-gal mark.
Humidity: 25-35% with the lights on door open. 40-60% with lights off door close.
CO2: Supplemented by Sugar, active yeast, and water method.
Temps: Res temp 70-75 f (started to lower it to 68 by adding frozen water bottle in ziplock to the res). Room temp 75-80 f.
PPM: 990

I have added a little less than 1/4 a teaspoon of epsom salt bc I thought it was a mg issue but I am not sure if the dose was too small or whether it is another issue.

Here are the pics. The lower leaves look like their dieing. I am thinking of flushing it with half the nute concentration and ph water for a few days.

Could this be a phosphorous deficiency? Root bound issue?

They look fine. Maybe a teeny burnt at the ends, but not a huge deal. If it gets worse then you might have an issue. If anything that first pic looks like a Nitrogen overdose.

Thanks for the help! But I am not to sure tho it may just me being to paranoid. But its seems as if their is pale/dry feeling on the leaves and I have noticed some "yellowish/dry" patches on some leaves. Could this be a Zinc or phosphorus issue? I am trying to play it safe

I had that same problem with my plant, I corrected it by adding cal-mg, changed it back normal. Do realize that a cal-mg def is not a quick changer to leaves that are already showing signs it will probably take around week or 2 to start showing signs of good health again. If some leaves die in spots or die completely its OK don't freak out it happens. Other than that your plant looks great man good luck and happy growing!

I added a little bit of epsom salt. Little meaning less then 1/4 teaspoon to the res which is 8-gal with 6-gal of (tap water/nute solution-ph 5.3). Should I add some more? How do you know how much to add?

Your right but the reason its def is due to incorrect ph, is has to be 5.8 or youll have no end of issues. The plants are not well atm.

I have had friends use Epsom salts they swore by it but for me I have never used it, only cal-mg which I prefer.

Here is a great post IMO that might help you a little bit

Lots of people are trying to use
Epsom salts to fix their undiagnosed Plant problem , thinking they will make the leaves turn green and healthy again. This is not logical. Why?

-Problemscaused by overfert (burns, lockout, increased sensitivity to heat, soil salting) will be exacerbated by YET ANOTHER ionic substance entering the mix.
-Problemscaused by overwatering can't be fixed by changing what is in the Water
-Problemscaused by pH imbalance are not solved by the addition of another chemical, especially one that can interact with what is already there and make soil chemistry even less stable.
-Problemscaused by insufficient Calcium in the water are not solved by adding a Magnesium compound. You have to add CALCIUM.

DIAGNOSE YOUR PROBLEM BEFORE THROWING 'SOLUTIONS' AT IT!!!!!
(no pun intended)

When is it okay to use Epsom salt?
-When you have diagnosed your plant as being Magnesium deficient or locked out. The leaves appear evenly striped, with a pale streak running cleanly down the center of each intervocalic region on the fan leaf.
-When you are already correcting the CAUSE of the initial deficiency or lockout. This means identifying and fixing all soil, water, fertilizer, and environmentalproblems and actively addressing them.

How should you apply Epsom salt?
-Using a Magnesium compound as a foliar spray is less risky than adding it to your fert solution (unless you have calculated what you need or are using CalMag Plus). Fill a spray bottle with lukewarm tap water. Add one drop of dish soap and 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of Epsom salts. Allow to disolve. Mist lightly, not to runoff or beading, onto affected leaves just when the lights come on. Repeat daily until pale stripes disappear

Also try out some 5 gal PRIMO water from wal-mart its a 75 ppm water that isn't near as hard as tap and not as soft as distilled. I swear by it but also I personally never had any good luck with my tap water by me. Hope this helps!

Thanks alot! I am going to get a spray bottle and give it a try slowly increasing the dosage. In comparison, it does look like a magnesium deficiency based off the pictures posted on the forum and all over the web. Yeah I been meaning to go to target. I don't have a walmart nearby. But thanks again. I will give it a shot tomorrow and post back.

Seems like everyone has a different opinion on the ideal PH range. I have tried to keep it at 5.6. Does the ph fluctuation explain the browning on the tips and sides of the plant?

I need help please. My questions: What causes a leave to brown at tips and edges? A deficiency right. A tint of yellow and browning of tips which start from the bottom up is usually an indication of a nitrogen issue correct? Why aren't my other two plants displaying nitrogen issues? Why does one look like it has a mg issue?

Seems like they are eating nutes at a different rates. I think the issue may be with my ph range and that I am not topping off correctly. For hydro one is supposed to track the PPM relative to the water level. So with every new dose of nutes I have a PPM of 990 with 6-gals of tap water. If the water decreases and the PPM increases you add plain water right? When the ppm decreases and water level decreases you top-off with 1/4 serving off nutes and some water or whatever ratio is required to get back to target PPM range?

Any input?
