Do you,s think football /scoccer will become as big a sport as baseball or basketball in america after David Beckham joining LA Galaxy

It seems like he,s going to fill the stadium week in and week out it would be good to have america really take part in the world cup

I just didn't think many Americans liked football. You all seem to enjoy sports that only involves other Americans. Maybe this isn't the case though and I think it would be pretty awesome if America formed a decent team, but seeing as football isn't a major sport there, it may take some time.

once the kids start practicing there skills they seen beckham do in the street,s it should take off im sure

They all have a little bit more of an intrest now both men and women over there, and if the kids like him and want to play like him the way diego maradona made me want 2 play as a kid it will be massive over there

Gordie best went there in the 70,s mybe the best player ever and it dident kick of and i think pele was even there im not sure on that 1 but i think beckhams name is enough its like Nike or somthing like some super star brand

I,ll add all he can do is kick a dead ball,s and look good lol and make a team be supported world wide the chinese spend millions and millions on him

Yes, but David Beckham is really, really, really good looking. :-D

Don't underestimate his aesthetic appeal.

Sorry it will never happen. The only people who care about Beckham are Spice Girl fans. We americans like contact sports. It's strange, american football didn't work over there and soccer will never work over here. American Football is huge over here...HUGE. I love hockey, not many americans. Soccer is a hard sport, a real sport it's big at the high school level but after that not so big. It moves slow and nobody cares over here. I live in Philly and we have had a team forever, never ever is it even talked about.

Mark my words Beckham won't even make a dent, what soccer league is he in? Is it indoor or outdoor?

Here in america baseball is called our american pastime, but american football is more popular. Basketball is declining, but soccer won't even get close. Like I said though lots of soccer is played but you rarely ever see pro soccer on the tube. I know how you feel about soccer in Europe...for some reason it doesn't translate here. The talk about Beckham is almost non exisistant over here.

Suppose you,s must be right then americans just dont get football But i dident know LA had a football team.
Now La galaxy are known world wide and they are in european papers daily mainly england and spain but all of europe have intrest or at least know about it seems a very big change already

i remember the world cup usa 1990 and janet jackson sang some song and had to kick the ball into the net and missed and the net fell down lol footballs not ment to be hyped up like american football

If its only high school kids that play footy out there
Then i think you are right it will not happen most great footballers learn to play in the streets were they live in mostly tough working class areas and thats were the support and passion come for that club

its like how black people are the best at basketball in the US they live it on there streets and dont need some school coach to show them how do it

if black americans took to football i think we would have something special

Don't get me wrong it's a huge sport over here just not on a pro level. And as for all the entertainment before our events it makes me sick. Unfortunately here in america the entertainment part and the sports part have been intertwined...I personally hate that part of our sports. The Super Bowl entertainment is for the girls...IMO.

I guess we don't understand it like you guys don't get american football. What's hockey like over there? Is it big on a pro level?

Hockey in the Uk is around but i guess its like football in the US. It's almost never on tv and not many people watch it, and all the stadiums are usually tiny. Yeah I think Beckham will raise the profile of football over there as he's an image icon and especially as you guys love the spice girls for some reason. He's in the news here almost every day. But like hockey here, your not going to rasie the profile of football that much if you only get a max capacity of 27,000 a game. Thats like a league 2 stadium in the Uk and also every other sport in the US has feckin huge stadiums. And why are they called such shit names like The Home Depot Centre, or Dick's Sporting Goods Park (lol) in Colorado

Nope wont happen soccer is a gay sport that is too soft and boring for Americas taste. It will increase as the number of illegal mexican aliens enter the country though. They have already been looking at the Beck numbers since he got here and other then slight raise in galaxy ticket sales most of the country doesnt care.I dont know how anyone can watch soccer its so boring and has no bang. You kick it then chase it wow fun.If they want in the US market allow full contact hitting, make the field smaller, stop that idoiot who screams"goooooooooaaaallllllll" thats annoying as hell and get them some uniforms that dont make them look so gay..Im all for boycotting this ridiculous thing of soccer they want to call a sport.

Baseball footbal and Basketball are the US main sports.Hockey had its day but its dying.WE dont like the spice girls in the US not sure who does and when Beckham speaks its like a nuetered littl girl lol.Hes not manly enough to be a US idol and his wife is butt ugly.I am against all the new corporate sponsors names on stadiums but alot of fans call stadiums by old names any ways like US celluar field is always called Comisky park or Sox Park you call it US cellular and its a give away your from out of town. Our stadiums are a bit small though only holding like 40000 at baseball fields

Theres nothing soft about football its full contect sport that you just dont know about really
america,s the only country that dont play it even in south america if u were to say footy was soft you would get bucher,d
There are two types of footballers a tough deffening/midfielder (Roy keane) or a fast and agile player that attacks
and they dont were any that gay padding or head gear lol and they break all sorts of bones and want to play on for there club

All them tough sports ya say american football and what ever if they came here and tryed gaelic or hurling they,d look soft and gay lol

How can you say football is slow, maybe the way you guys play it, i've seen some american "soccer" games and its no wonder you dont watch it.

To find out what slow looks like in a sport look no further than american "football" every time the ball moves a few yards they all stop and chat and decided how to get it another 5 yards.

I have emphasised soccer and football because i believe these two words are backwards.

Soccer is played with your feet and is a game of real skill.
American football is played 85% with your hands and is just a bunch of fatties chucking a ball around in a park.

Yeah if you love contact sports how come you lot are shit at rugby. They are hard bastards that dont wear helmets. How can you watch American Football or any other sport that is controlled by adverts. I watched your football for like 2.5hrs and only saw bout 5 mins of the actually game and 2hrs of sponsership stuff. I especially liked the advert saying
'This sports event is brought to you sponser free by SNICKERS and MARS'. lol And baseball is slower, less contact and shitter than football which is why no1 really plays it here. I think the only thing I can stand to watch is Ice Hockey, at least you get to see 5 mins of uninterupted play. Didnt the US want to make our beautifull game of football into 22.5min quarters so you could fit more adverts into each game
