  • Anyone grow DQ before, duh I know someone has? I have 2/3 pheno's I would like some advice on these are all the first run so I can not say which is a better smoke, looking for tips. I don't have any pictures right now (not since flowering) but I can describe what I have, before I do though let me fill you in on my intentions:

Any advice on what I should look for would be nice

I grew out a 5 pack, 2 males, 3 fems, I cloned both males prior to indicating and saved both male clones. I am looking to do a little inbreeding and on the 2nd run, I would like some selection advice. All of the leaves pretty much are similar, double cerated and long.

All pheno's were tops (a little late) so all 3 have 4 main branches

    Male Pheno:

Pheno 1: This male is very similar to Female Pheno 1, it was topped and grew fast and long (see description of pheno 1 female). Skinny double cerated edges on leaves.

My thought was to breed male 1 with female 1, than male 1 to female 1 F1, Male 1 to F2 and running some test seeds.

Pheno 2: This male was shorter and slower to grow, more branches, more indica bush than sativa. Leaves were a little fatter but still the double cerated.

I have clones of both still.

Pheno 1: This one is 6-12" taller than the other 2 (C99 dominant?) and has 2 main shoots, and 2 smaller side shoots (from topping). The nodes are a bit more spaced out and this one is less branchy. I have it right next to a Tangerine and Sour Deez, similar stretch.

Pheno 2: Short indica like bush, not quite as bushy as my MKxSkunk but still really branchy. This pheno when topped produced 4 main branches all around the same height. This one grew some FAT and large fan leaves early but newer growth was normal sized (if you will). Defiantly the shortest of the 3, smells sort of like turpentine mixed with a really ripe banana (I've never grown/smelt cheese but I'm assuming its the cheese indica dom)???

Pheno 3: Perhaps the best of both worlds. This is short and bushy but stretched a few inches more than pheno 2, it resembles pheno 1 in branch formation, but with less height and a more branching. Leaves and smell are almost identical to pheno 2 though.

I found myself at an event where TGA had a booth setup with beans, having just become legal I was able to purchase some beans. I got TGA's flyer (and mind you I've done everything to safely distance myself from the scene since 2002 and being from the midwest we only knew of the major amsterdam/canadian breeders) I really didn't know much about his strains and made a hasty decision at the time of the show ( I did study the pamphlet for a bit prior to purchase). I took Chyrnobl because I had heard of it and read of it, Dairy Queen because of the Rom x Cheese (never had C99) and I took Deep Purple because of the BX Urkle with the added Querkle.

If I were to buy 3 strains from TGA again (a redo if you will) I still would have went with DQ after all I've read, probably Ace of Spades or Plushberry the Black Cherry Cola palnt is divine, I had Subs own Black Cherry Cola Tincture and it's amazing (AoS seems to always be sold out here) my 3rd selection would probably be JTR.

Having done my research on his strains I can pretty much make the Cheese Quake strain by crossing DQ and DP

When working with a strain especially a newer for me I would; Keep both males and pollinate a branch of each female with a male. Of course major labeling is involved as to what is what but now on the first run you every cross possible and can keep the ones you think are best. There again the other ones may contain the treasures you seek in the following run, don't limit yourself if you can spare a bud to make a few extra seeds.
I am working with Lady Canes and use assorted males with each female you just don't know before hand what genes will line up and end up producing a better plant. Just my two cents I hope you enjoy

I always clone, sometimes you have to grow the strain out for a while before you know how it behaves and then you can look for traits in the progeny, toss any with the traits that you find can harm the f2's genepool, that make a good f1 have f2 progeny that suck.

Love your idea, I'm a true student of the plant, it's not a hobby but a true passion something when I wasn't doing it I wished I was and when I am I wish I had more space more time more more more!!! I probably have as many hours reading, watching and listening to information about growing and all aspects of the culture in the last 13 years than I have growing.

So that said I have read several different ways to get male pollen safely. I've never pollinated using collected pollen and frankly even though I could list accurately 3 different methods, just like sexing your plants, until you do it you just don't know!! I don't see anyone talking about the brown bag method any more (placing a bag over a branch while still growing), what would you suggest?

1 problem is I have 3 lights but can not use my 400 hps/mh due to low amps in house. So I have 2 lights 2ft 2 t5 and 4ft 8 t5, originally I was going to move everything but what I wanted to pollinate under the 2ft light to pollinate but the more I think about it the less I like that idea. So I would love to collect the pollen and store for use now and later, what are the best methods or suggestions based on my setup?

Applying pollen, is a wet paint brush still the best recommended method?

The wet paint brush will kill the pollen, dry model paint brushes work great..

i literally just cropped i wish i woulda taken pics now to show you the pheno to throw away. it was busy with a indica style bud decleopment while all the hairs stay white til the end. its crazy but nothing special. trich production was pathetic. and it was shorter pheno.
