cutting plywood

ok, i dont really have any power tools or anything that would assist me in cutting through wood.. at all

but since plywood is so thin could i, in theory.. cut at it with a sharp knife until i break through and just work my way slowly through it?

i know at lowes and home depot you can basically get them to cut it for you as a free service (i think) but im not taking down measurements for every light and fan i plan to install.. or if i want to add more lights / fans on at a later time but want to keep my box light proof..

any ideas?

Plan your project carefully and you can have the bulk of the work done by the guys at Lowes, then spend a cpl of bucks on some basic tools and have at it. Grow, grow, grow!

thats what i was thinking, have the major box dimensions cut by the dude at lowes so i can go home and put it all togeather, then buy a small handsaw and cut the holes for my lights / fans and insert accordingly

Power tools are what ya need. Hand tools just dont do the job for me. Try a local pawn shop or discount store (Harbor Freight comes to mind) if your budget is tight.

Buy the tools, use them, clean them up a little, return them and say they weren't worth a shit. Full refund and a finished growbox.

go to a pawn shop or trade a rock to a crack head for a skill worm drive circular 20-50 bucks at most used. LOL

its plywood.. the most i would need is a hand saw, im not trying to spend all my money on this grow up im betting a couple hundred will be used in creating this flowering box alone, ide rather it be cheap but slow, then fast and expensive, i have alot of free time on my hands so i dont mind working by hand to get it done. my veg box costed me a total of 13 bucks to make and ide say once i get 2 more bulbs for supplimental light i will have a good veg or 12/12 seed to harvest grow box on my hands.. so a total of $20 for a box with the potential of getting me atleast an ounce if i did a 12/12 grow (i think i could fit 6-8 plants easy with that style), which i think im gunna do actually for my first grow

theres no way u gonna cut that stuff with a knife

sorry but this thread makes me laugh
i said i was going to buy a hand saw...

and i saw my friend grind through thicker wood with a key b4.. i think enough working at it would eventually make a hole where you could saw your way through very slowly with a sharp knife, it wouldnt be practical at all though.

dont hate until youve tried

I'd say spend the extra few dollars and get a power saw. Even a cheap quality one will last you a long time, for hundreds of projects if taken care of. Hand saw might get the job done this time but wont give you the versitility for future projects. As for using the tool and then returning it, that's just slimey. Although if you look through some stores, they do discount some returned goods.

its not really worth it imo.

if i can do the same job with a hand saw then with a power saw for cheaper thats what ill end up doing.

im not going to really have any future projects unless i descide to build another small box for either vegging or 12/12 grows, or another slightly bigger box then the veg one to keep a mother to clone with. and to be honest i couldnt really get away with either one of those bcuz to even get to that point i would already have my small box which is build aleady and my flowering box which is yet to be build.. then it would turn into a large closet grow as opposed to the stealth grow that im trying to do because having all that shit in my closet would be utterly rediculous and anyone who happened to see it (ex. my sister who shares my appartment, visiting parents, land lord) im still concerned about having the big ass flowering box concealed. But i think i can get away with the 2.

If I didnt have my closet I would just buy one of those closetmaid closet kits. You get a decent sized closet with two doors for right around $100. You then could easily cut holes in it for fans and whatever else, and its a decent sized closet. Goto home depot or lowes and they have an aisle for storage, you'll see it down there.

you guys are relentless on saying knifes wont work.. I MEANT IF YOU TAKE ENOUGH OF YOUR TIME ON GOING OVER AND OVER ON THE SAME SPOT YOU COULD WEAR IT DOWN TO A HOLE, IT ISNT PRACTICAL AND IM NOT WILLING TO TRY IT, so please stfu

im not trying to steal anything, if i was trying to it would be more cfls lol, im just trying to get the point across that plywood is thin and it wouldnt be hard to break through with simple household items, and once i get more free time on my hand (and if i have extra wood from my grow box) i will PROVE that it works with my time and take pics

I swear, so many ppl here are so arrogant .. Its sad to see ppl dog someone for wanting/needing to save money... For you little kids out there in rollitup land dont know, the economy SUCKS ASS right now and money is really tight for ALOT OF PPL in the U.S.. Its really easy for a lil rich kid that gets a 100.00 a week allowance or someone who sells the bud they grow to say "Why not buy this or that.. Its ONLY $xx.00" and to laugh at someone who is trying to figure out a way to get the same job done and save some money in the process.. Not everyone that grows weed sells it and not everyone that grows weed is rich or even "comfortable".. God knows im not.. I live paycheck to paycheck and every damn dollar is important to me.. I am disabled and on a very small fixxed income.. So im ALWAYS looking to save all the money I can..
And Im not too GD proud to say that I have cut plywood without a saw .. It was a royal PITA but I got the job done without buying an expensive power tool that I most likely will never use again.. And buying it and using it then returning it is an option, albeit a rather trifling option, and thats not the way I like to do things.. So I used a hammer and a flat head screw driver to make vent holes for vent fans and it worked.. So it CAN be done.. I admire the person that looks at a situation and THINKS about how to do it on a budget and gets it done right more than I admire someone who just throws money at a challenge. All im saying is some of you ppl need to realize that not everyone on this forum is in the financial situation that they would like to be.

sry but thats just my 2c
