The fan leaves are blocking the light just like a solar panel blocks the sun. So no, leave the fan leaves alone, trim the popcorn bud sites way down low if your light can't penetrate. And unless you got a genetic mutant, the fan leaves don't block growth - after a million years they kinda got it figured out.

As for the wilting - something is wrong if they are wilting and simply cutting them off won't get to the root of the problem - heat, underwatering, etc.

those fan leaves contain chlorophyll, they are the work horse of your plant, dont remove them, unless they are one the lower part of the plant, and are browning, yellowing(nitrogen def, starts at bottom). if they are ready to be removed they will basically fall off. the plant knows exactly what it is doing, dont alter its plans. i would guess, underwater or overheat, got a fan? put a lil one by the opening blowing up towards the plant on low, to push the heat up. try a lil water. good luck!

well.... if you cut off the fan leaves you're going to have a seriously ANGRY plant! the fan leaves are what hold all the chlorophyll for your plant. basically, they keep it alive and well. without that..... well... its bad news! but it seems as though you already just went and did it, so since its too late, now you know for next time. you can always pluck the popcorn buds before you harvest.

Well bygones be bygones, but your plant was underwatered. I had the same problem; didn't change a thing except give more water and it solved the problem. The damaged leaves stayed wilted, but the new ones have stayed nice and healthy.

also, take that foil out and just paint the cardboard white, that foil will create hot spots. semigloss bright white, or whatever you got! (white)
