I also believe that there is evidence suggesting benefits to running 730 during the day. From my understanding; What the Emerson effect is this: Using 680nm as a starting point, Emerson found that from here an increase to 730nm resulted in a lower amount of photosynthesis taking place. Emerson also found that dropping down from 680nm to 660nm resulted in a lower amount of photosynthesis taking place. Only when Emerson Combined BOTH the 730 and 660 together did he see an exponential rise in active photosynthesis. This rise in photosynthesis was greater than each spectrum combined when ran without the other, suggesting there was two different photo systems that ran on long and short wavelengths (P1 and P2). With this said, as long as there is enough 660, there should be a benefit to running the 730 with it too.
The sun has 660 and 730 in a ratio of 10:8 So I think it would be interesting to try and run a light with the same ratio.

Its an interesting question, can I ask when you refer to ambient temp do you mean ambient still air or ambient in your room which has some fan based air flow. The movement of air relative to pin fins is important and allows for good thermal performance in higher ambients(air movement based). Most of our testing on these was done in approx 26 degree with no airflow

Hm Definitely with airflow. As you know in Australia we get 40-44c summers which brings the rooms ambient to 35-39 even with some airflow.
I might have read somewhere this heatsink/COB combo is supposed to raise the temp by 20-25c higher than ambient?
So even if its 40c ambient, it'll raise itto 65? everything under 85c should be safe?
Of course i will add a large fan moving air on top of them all.

@welight, Hey Mark, I'm going to order the MAU5-V kit, do you have a link to the dimmer (potentiometer) that pairs with that kit's driver?
Do I need (or do you recommend) anything else besides what's in the kit and dimmer that I might be forgetting before I place the order?
(I always seem to order stuff then realize I needed an additional thing)

use a cigarette lighter for the heat shrink. direct and easy. sorry about your pots, but a cheap lesson to learn as pots are cheap, maybe $1 each or so. peace

Hey Mark,
The hard strips are great in the 3000K XPG3 (S3 bin I think) that you made up for my side lighting, I'll definitely be wanting that mix I spoke with you about of 2700K - 3000K - 3500K on the one strip.
The beauty of these is the plug and play nature... and also I don't need to spend up big on heat sinks...
Still want to work on that 4 channel hard strip for my supplemental blue and deep reds etc..
I'm actually planning to run these @250-500ma so they'll be fantastic for my lower canopy lighting.

They look sweet, I have some 2700 and 3500 on order with Cree so will let you know. You should see well over 200 lumens per watt at 250ma

yes the VAUX line is a handy 12V source and does not affect the dimming function

I couldn't figure out what that Vaux lead was for, so I just taped it over with electrical tape and left it free
