okay so with my last grow I had a lot of lower limbs that didn't do much, and it seemed they were taking up a lot of light and just generally making a pain in the ass of themselves,,, so I'm wondering when is a good time to trim these limbs off to make a more uniformed plant??
I'm a month into veg and getting ready to change over to flower because if i don't do it now I will run out of room but I really need to know when is the best time to trim
Please help thank you :leaf:

pictures? cutting off branches can shock the plant and cause it to have less yeild. id say just leave them or clone em

hey thanks for the input
I'm really still not sure I don't want to shock the plant that is why I'm on here asking anyone else have any input in this matter for me what is the advantage of doing it now or waiting till I put them in flower?? I really dont want to mess this up but last time there was so much larfy buds around the lower limbs I would rather that energy go to the main buds
kind regards and thank you for any and all input on this

from what ive seen some are fine to cut.
dont over do it but trimming forces more grow to the top of the plant = bigger bud from what i understand

dont cut anything! By cutting leaves your cutting off a plants light source.
ok but the leaves I would be cutting are the light source for the limb I'm wondering about cutting off to force energy to the main colas and open up the bottom of the plant for more air flow does that make any sense ?
I just dont want to shock the plant I'm sure there is a good time to do this I just don't know when

If you do cut them off, do it 2 to 3 weeks before you put them in the flowering room. If they're already flowering, leave them alone. I have cut off the very bottom couple of sets before flowering and have never had any problems. Make sure you use a sterile razor blade, or snips.

all good questions, if you cut now you should not cut all the way back to the main stalk, and you should try to clone and flower the little branches with your big plant. if you do cut now just watch how much other things you change, give them at least a week maybe two to make sure they are doing good and growing still, then i would send them into flower. hopfully your cuttings will be rooted and you can stick em in with the others . good luck

You can cut whenever you want.......you just don't want too cut late into flowering because the stress will diminish your yields...I don't cut past 2 weeks into flowering.....but it is good idea to remove all the lower shoots that don't receive adequate light so the plant can focus on the colas that do and removing bottom shoots also increases air flow....

no not flowering yet but i dont think i have even a week before i have to flower they are growing like a weed ..lol but really I'm running out of height they are in veg a lil over a month and almost 2 feet tall and bushy as hell i only have 3 more feet to go and with my last grow by the time i harvested the light was to close so I'm trying to flower in no less than a day or two

well I looked at the faq at the top of the page again and to be honest what i found was all on triming the leaves and that isnt what i was looking for thank you for your input but the idea I went with was to trim the lower limbs on half of the plants and leave the limbs on the other half I'll post here in 8 or 9 weeks and let ya know what really happens im using
2 1000 watt horalux bulbs
1 light mover
1 4x8 ebb and flow table
1 75 gal reservoir
and all the other stuff ya know like carbon filter,co2 i make my own co2
2 55 gal juice barrel 40 lb corn 60 lb sugar 1 lb distillers yeast i let 1 barrel work for 2 weeks then i let the other one work makes great corn likker too:clap:
thanks for all the input peace

Your good on removing limbs right now.....if you have a height restriction and you are worried your plants may get too big you can use bushmaster....you use it at the beginning of flower.......it really makes your plants stop stretching and get bushy by stacking internodes closer together........and it kinda forces the transition into flowering a little faster....when used correctly (all the above)...

Not really, cutting off select leaves can allow more light to get to the buds.. just dont over do it.

and hes talking about lower branches... and as for that, i would just leave them, but thats me. you always run the risk of shocking your plant, not only does it effect yield, but it WILL increase the time it takes for your plant to be ready for harvest. i say leave em. but i'll tell you like i tell everyone else, the best way to find out is to try for your self. since you didnt do it last time, maybe try it this time and compare yields, and total flowering times.

thats comming from a commercial grower though. when i do my personal plants, i baby the shit outta them, and make sure all trims are for the sole purpose of increasing quality.

man i have done bolth in the past cut when ever you want it dont stress the plants that much to be a big yeild prob and helps with better liht pen and air flow for the plant and horemones got to the upper growth helping over all yeild and bud size i find as long as your not cutting huge main branches off should be fine anytime you want .

i'd leave it, most of the bits at the bottom will just drop off when it goes into flower and shocking the girls is never great bongsmilie

IF most of the "bits" as you put it are just dropping off at the bottom during the flowering cycle on your plants your doing something wrong.....some foliage if any can and might fall but not most......lower foliage dieing off and falling in most cases is usually a sign of some sort of deficiency
