cured too early.. mold.. help!

ok this is my first grow and everything went pretty great. i didnt have any problems and i turned out some dense buds. i let them dry for about a 2-3 weeks then when i thought they were dry enough i put em in a jar to cure. bad move. now after about a week of that there are tiny white dots on a some of the buds (maybe all of them just not visible). could further drying make the mold go away? has anyone had this problem before? is this type of mold particularly harmful? is there anyway to fix it? is there anything i can use the bud for if not?? thanks everyone. by the way i know theres a shitload of bud mold threads but i couldnt seem to find one with the same white dots problem.

idk could you upload a pic?i bought some bud awhile back that had white dots on it but i smoked it and i didnt get anything i hope.

If you let em sit out for 2-3 weeks they should have been dried. I do 5 days and then throw em in the jars. Where did you put em? Did the stems snap when bent? How often did you burp the jars to get rid of excess moisture?

That sucks. You must live in a humid ass place! If you think there is a chance of your buds molding over make sure to dry as fast as possible. I had a big bud with budrot and was concerned smaller buds would get infected to i dried that shit infront of a big fan at about 80 degrees for a couple days till it was nice and crispy - doesn't allow for as good of a cure but at least you wont be smoking spores. If you live somewhere thats super humid try putting them infront of an airconditioner (make sure its not a swamp cooler though) or lastly put them in the oven on warm with the door open

Btw - if the infestation is to severe and you don't want to smoke it you can always make hask oil. Strong alcohol and butane will both sterilize that mold for you.

i dont have a camera good enough to show u the problem but to answer your questions: the stems were very close the being able to snap. i left a tiny bit of moisture before putting them in the jar because the guy at the local grow shop told me to. and i opened the top every few days to check for mold but i havent been home in days and i came back to this trajedy. i recently cracked open some of the cola nugs and saw what looked like spiderwebs.. im pretty depressed cuz i think all of my 180 gs is ruined. im planning on making butane hash tomarrow. i have learned my lesson about this for my next crop at least. thanks for all the good info.. by the way i live in the SF bay area (not very humid at all) i wasnt expecting to have problems. anyone know how much hash i should get from roughly 180 gs? its sativa and not too crystaly

I would dump it into a brown paper sack with the top open for a few days. Then start smoking it. Put the remanider back in the jars and burp em more often. That mold might work like LSD (that made out of mold too I think.) Might give a person a buzz which is only dreamt of.

LOL uhmmm i realllly doubt it. most mould on bud can be harmful when smoked, not to mention LSD cannot be smoked. its made from an ergot mold, and filled with a bunch of other things too and treated in different ways

if you got mouldy bud oil is pretty much all you can do with it.

freeze it and make oil or hash from it. Don't risk getting you and your friends sick.

i ended up makin some nice butane hash. seemed like the thing to do to ensure no mold. i was thinkin the same thing juicybuds good call. definately wont be makin that mistake on round 2.

I would have opened the jars more than every few days....more like a a few times every day. That could have definitely been the problem

Exactly what newb said above--more than 24 hours without burping is where your mold came from. In the first week you should be opening the jar 2,3,4 times a day and removing all buds just to let them air out. It's a pain in the ass, but not as much as mold ruining 180 grams. After that once a day is sufficient, but it never hurts to do it a few times.

You would have been better served leaving the jars open while you went out of town if you couldn't find someone to open them for you...

you guys use jars huh? I'm really thinking about getting one of those drying nets and putting it by my window. Anyone ever used one? if so, how did it work out?

Dang it just dawned on me to buy a vaporizer. The mold couldn't jump up and bite you like that I dont think.

what kind of way did you dry them cus i hang mine on hhangers and put a heater in the room im drying them in and did you leave the jars closed for long periods of time cus that will cause mold to happen

ive used one but not that big it let the moisture out and dried it pretty fast

I had that same problem, but caught the mold when it was in the begging stages, just looked like little spider webs on surface of some of the buds. I just took all the stuff our of the jars, laid them out on trays and brushed the mold off, which came off easily. After another week of drying no more mold appeared and I couldn't really see the old mold either. Threw the rest into large bags and been smoking it ever since.

Haven't died yet . . .
