I've never tried any of those methods. But I dry to crisp. I just chopped a seedy plant and made bubble hash. Was strange the 74 micron bag came out a lot like bho it won't go solid. just a pile of goo. lol just thought I would share.

Fresh; hang dried then frozen for me.

I would say you need to dry it or dehydrate it at least some to remove the water inside before you freeze it. Never tried it though just my 2c.

You can extract it either fresh cut and frozen or dried. It is easier dried, and more aromatic fresh cut.

I've tried fresh-frozen and dried frozen and I have to say the fresh frozen turned out a blonder, better consistency product.

All of you, please, go to this website http://skunkpharmresearch.com/
These guys know more than all of us combined. i promise you....

Look on the scroll bar on the right for all the articles on proper concentrate extraction and polishing.
Especially this article: http://skunkpharmresearch.com/bho-extraction/

What I'm mainly getting at is I see a lot of you talking about freezing you bud before blasting, and all I think about when I hear that is water in your oil and extra chlorophyll and lipids and impurities (may be more weight, but less healthy dabs.)

Anyway, have fun guys.

You sure you even checked the site you listing? Fortunately, many of us know about the Skunk Pharm site and how great it is.

Like you said, the site has more info than many people even can realize. You would then realize the folks at the Skunk Pharm suggest putting your material in the freezer to lock up the chlorophyll and other impurities.. So I would check out the site one more time before preaching about the evil freezer.

Welcome to the forums ;-)

hahah oh shit! i totally spaced on that guys! disregard what i said earlier folks!

i had read that freezing it ADDS impurities somewhere and coulda sworn it was on skunkpharms but yes, i was wrong.

lollllz.

have you guys ever sprayed a tube and the butane never made it out the end? likee it got stuck and frozen inside???

..i have.. and i think that because i used material that hadnt been dry enough..

i find it pretty hard to break down fresh frozen buds. my grinders usually get all gunked up, or i loose patience.. fresh frozen be pretty darn delicious though. the bud terp profile is at its highest point, so I recommend extracting at this state for the connoisseur..

I personally like to dry my fresh buds out, i speed things up, and make sure it happens with my dehumidifier set on low.. in a few days, i got dry enough crispy buds.. i then prefer to bag them up so the moisture can balance out.. once i got a nice crispy bud after a day or two of bagging. I then grind asap.... grinding down the buds really brings out a lot of smell, and surface area for the butane to cover.. i blast what fits my tube. and if there are some grindings left over, or if i just want to blast in the future , i will store the grounds in a bag, and store in fridge until im ready to blast..

dry stuff, bud and or trim can make glorious oil.. it just depends on how much care was taken for them precious trichs to be preserved..

If you want the dankest reekiest smelling extract hang dry your plants for 14 days in very cool temps 60-62F and never go lower than 50% humidity. The flowers reek more than any other way and the extract is a concentrated smell of that.
I've seen and smelled waxes from 10 different dispensaries around my area and haven't smelled any even close to how dank and strong my extracts smell. You get out what you put in.
Fresh frozen is good but not a realistic way of extracting if there is a lot of product to run because the yield to wet product ratio is so low.

We extract most of our material after hanging 5/7 days denuded of fan leaves, in a cool dry space.

For bragging rights aromatics, a fresh frozen extraction works best for me, though as pointed out, the yield is low for the work involved, because of the extra bulk of the water.

If I also want bragging rights visuals, I would select a fresh frozen early Sativa, that still has all clear trichomes.

Hey Fade man if you are able to and have the time to do a test...hang some plants like you normally do for 5-7 days and hang some for 14 days at a much cooler temp and never go below 50% humidity. You should find almost double the dankest nose to the longer cooler dried flowers and a much more very, very smoother, even more favorable smoke.
I was doing 7 day drying for years and years. Once I went cooler for longer I never looked back. The difference is amazing. And this reflects onto all the extracts. The dankest extracts possible.

I was told this years ago by a Dutch grower I met on another forum who not only does the two week cool hang but also further cures by cardboard boxing the plants for even more sweeter, smoother, danker cured flowers.

And I agree with you about clear trichs made prettier extracts but also weaker extracts due to not ripe enough trichs. Personally I wouldn't want to harvest any flower with clear trichs even a pure Sativa. Minimum flower time IMO should be full cloudy for a racey high from a Sativa. From Indica's I find the most potent to be full cloudy and a bit amber as a lot of hybrids but as you mention the extract color will be a more beige to beige orange color from this amount of flowering time.

OK, I'll give it a shot, but we'll have to take a second run at our drying cabinet to drop the temperature and control the humidity. We built in the space and ventilation for one in the lab, but usurped it for room to put a worse needed vacuum oven.

We're currently using a basement and subject to the vagaries of the climate.

What temperature do you hold it at at 50% humidity for 14 days?

Yup, bragging rights for purdy pictures are not necessarily bragging rights for aroma, taste, and effect.

Different strokes for different folks too! I prefer Sativa dominant material that is harvested full cloudy for effects and one of my partners likes hers full amber.
