Crohns

So one of the reasons I decided to do my first grow is because I have Crohn's disease and I'm looking for relief. Is there anyone out there on riu who also suffers from this or know of anyone with this. I was wondering what strains may be good for my symtems.

I have had IBS for the better part of my adult life. I am 50 now.

I grow for personal use only and have found that indica stains that produce a body stone offered more relief than sativa dominant strains. I grow both for the fact that sometimes I need to get stuff done and that is where the sativa strains come into play. Cotton Candy, Blackberry and the likes
At night, I always reach for the kush, diesel, cheese and the likes. There are so many that cover both sides of the fence that it is mind boggling at times.

Hope this helps and best of luck to you M8.

Peace and Great Grows

I suffer from Ulcerative Colitis which is an IBD like Crohns. It was also a big reason why I started growing for myself as well. After a terrible flair that even 40g/day of prednisone couldn't get under control I started on the biologics (remicade) and being that my immune system is now suppressed by medication it is very important for me to know that the buds I am smoking are clean and cared for....no pesticides!

As for a strain recommendation, unfortunately, I haven't noticed one strain being substantially more effective than another. With that being said, I smoke very little sativa strains so couldn't comment on those. And I also haven't tried a high cbd strain either although I did just recently source a cut of AC/DC so I'm excited to experiment with that. My hope is that one day I can replace the biologics with the cbd... I don't want to be on these "big gun" drugs for much longer with all the crazy potential side-effects.

I usually smoke heavy indicas....mostly OGs. It definitely calms my stomach and eases any discomfort that I'm experiencing. It also doesn't hurt that the OGs taste fantastic.

Take care and I hope you find relief soon.

Appreciate the responses. Wasn't sure what kind I would get. I'm trying my hand at a few indica strains right now. Nothing my dr gives me does anything for me and she is against biologics for me. The steroids give me terrible side affects. Just lookin for a little relief. It would be nice to not be curled up in pain every evening from my stomach. Not to mention the frustration and depression that comes along with dealing with horrible flare ups.

Are your symptoms server cramping? If so, how effective is the medication at quelling them and or the associated pain?

I have a friend with Crohns and IBS and her pains are so bad that it's difficult to take a hit and when she does consume it doesn't seem effective once the cramps have started.

Thanks for any suggestions or help.[/QUOTE]

ASAP get either Pet Flora - a soil-based probiotic-, and or fermented products like GOAT Kefir, or Kimchi

Begin a series of Dr Hulda Clark /liver cleanses along with these probiotics

Vitality Science also has an excellent Bentonite clay which will absorb the parasites attacking your intestines

At the moment my symptoms are under control and I am not having any pain issues. BUT, when I am flaring (aka the disease is active), the cramping pains are insane! I've spent many nights curled up in a ball trying to fall asleep. The women on the IBD forum that I follow have compared the pain to giving birth. This shit is no joke...

And smoking HAS helped me deal with the cramps in the past. Have you tried a heavy indica? Also, I vape only. Hope your friend finds some relief....

Before offering any health advise to someone suffering from a chronic illness, please at least have somewhat of an understanding of the disease. IBD is considered an autoimmune disease.... meaning that our (us individuals with chrohns and colitis) intestines are being under attack by our own immune systems... not some "parasites."

I'm not saying your recommendations would not be helpful, so please don't take offense. I just can't tell you how many times someone who has no experience or knowledge of this disease tell me or others with IBD some "magical method" that will make everything better. Doesn't work that way... IBD effects every individual differently and therefore is treated differently as well.

Chrons is not a disease, it's an effect of a toxic GI tract

Removing the offensive buildup eliminates the home for bad buds to colonize

Liver cleanses also cleanses the large intestines, but it takes time to fully remove the plaque that has built up

This is why the entire regimen is required.I did liver cleanses every 3 weeks for a year, then stretched them out to 4 months.

When done in total, better health is close at hand

I live with Crohns and respectively disagree.

Sad to say, what you describe in terms of pain, is what my friend seems to experience. Her problem is that it's difficult for her to get any relief once the cramping has started.

Thanks for your input.

If you follow what I laid out, you will see it improve and eventually disappear

FYI, Big Pharma spends big money creating 'diseases'. They say "Restless Leg Syndrome" is a disease. It is simply a magnesium deficiency.

The sooner we stop trusting those whose sole purpose is profit, the healthier we will be

Most people living with Crohn's disease will live with it there entire lives. Yes it can go into remission but don't say I'm not living with a disease until u walk a mile in my shoes. I'm sure your no dr. But I do agree that big pharma is all about money and not so much about helping.

All I can do is lead you to the 411, from there it's up to you

Yes, it's much harder to take personal responsibility than to turn your health over to others

Nothing to lose by proving me wrong.

I hope you try

I have crohns. It's okay though because I haven't had any flare ups in years. Ever since I changed my diet - Nothing. I used to eat lots of junk, lots of processed foods etc. If it wasn't good for you - I ate it. I switched my diet to a 80% "Chunky" diet (its like a smoothie but chunky ) The ingredient list is short and I've used the same ones for three years now. Daily - 12 servings Brown rice, 4 serv black beans, 5 raw eggs (I find I can eat 5 a day without a problem, I don't suggest you eat raw eggs btw lol that is my personal choice) 4-5 serv slow cook oat meal, 2-3 bananas (plantains when available) This comprises roughly 80% of my caloric intake. I add sweet potato and olive oil at times and supplement with whey if needed. Usually, between the chunky and my dinner (chicken, fish; lean meats) I don't need to supplement protein. Not sure if it is a result of my pre digestion - chunky, the ingredients or both. Maybe it is a result of exercise in conjunction with all of that.We all know by now that properly changing diet and regular exercise is a benny. I do know that as a teenager I would be doubled over in pain pretty regularly due to crohns and have been hospitalized at times. The pain was insane and I argue with my gf to this day that what I went through was worse then her cramps lol. I take that back, woman have it bad with the period, pregnancy gender equality and all. Lots of love for woman  My grandfather also died due to complications with crohns. Fucking sucks because he was a mountain man and I was dying to meet him (never did). He actually helped in a famous search in rescue at one time, can't name it because his name is my name lol, I'm a third. Hope all is well, sorry for the long post wicked stoned. :eyesmoke::joint:

I have a patient that has Ulcerative Colitis. I started him on a non-activated, high cbd coconut oil about 8 months ago. He was taking 20mg of prednisone every day (along with a monthly trip to a clinic to be hooked up to a drip IV), and he is now completely off of the steroid and is only taking the medicated coconut oil. He is completely symptom free after 10 years of battling this. I'm a little short on time right now, but I would be happy to elaborate later if you're interested.
