Cree cxb3070 vs epistar???

Hello RIU Community,
So i had a mars hydro sales rep tell me thier epistar chip is a "better" chioce then cree's cxb3070. I figured the sales rep is simply just trying to sell me thier product. Since recently joining roll it up and reading a lot more into cree style lights I figured I'd bring the question here!

Must be kidding , epistar better than CREE . Price or quality , price must be better than cree .

I'm paying the guy no mind. Obviously just trying to sell thier own product with little to no research actually done. So glad I joined a forum like this before wasting $300 on a low quality light from low quality sellers.

Mars has their place, they just need to figure out where that is: and once they do I bet they will be ok with it.

Which model would be best suited for a 3x3 grow tent? I'm guessing the 2 cob model. Also what's the price point? I have a few led companies in mind so far but with a month or two before I actually make the switch leaves me with plenty of time for through research.

I've seen many people have successful grows with mars hydro lights. Just can't see myself buying a light that will ultimately need to be replaced in less then a year. I rather spend the extra money up front but for some I do understand that's not an option. We all start out somewhere.

COB2 is OK . Price , please quote from our website with your location city to work out the shipping cost .

I use epistar 12-3W led's Royal Blue for a total of 36W as night vegging in a 2x2 space. For daylighting I use 4-cxb3590 36v, 3500/5000k 80 cri, cree COB's for a total of 200W. Each gets 12 hours. The Royal Blues work very well for the task at hand. I also use another 36-3W leds Far Red, Deep Red, and IR total 108W, along with 200W of Cree COB's.

For a 3x3 I would go with 8-CXB3590 36v, 3500/5000K, 80cri, 2meanwell -HLG-185H-1400B drivers, passive or active heats sinks. I prefer active heats sinks in an enclosed space, 3-5.88"x18" heatsinks, 1-meanwell 12/12-1 driver for fans pro1400 fits well. This will provide 400W in 9SF 45W/SF , making for a PPFD = 730, the sweet spot. peace.

Your ppf seems off and that looks more like a setup for a 4'x4'.

224par watts has a ppf over 1000.


300w total is more like it. Save some coin and run 4 x 3590s at 75w for 50% eff and you can come in closer to $1/w instead of $1.5-2 for 56%.

First of all Epistar are good for a cheap light but you can build a mars light for super cheap. That being said COBS are the best. Whats your budget? I suggest PLC or cutter Mau5 COB kit. Mars work I still have a 1200mars in a 3 x 3 but COBS are for sure better

my question is if i have found a actual draw 800w elpistar cob light that the recon is like a 1200w hps but is only $300 vs a cree cbxb 3590 that is $800/900 so if you could not aford the cree would it be better to go for the 800w epistar light with 3000/3500k cobs or just go for all reds like 660nm-670nm ? would you get more usable light from the red that the 3000/3500k cobs ?

Nobody actually even uses 3070s anymore.
At least not the diy community. (unless old builds)

But Epistars have shit quality controls and just aren't better.

Why wouldn't people use the CXB3070? It's the exact same tech as CXB3590 and people use those still as well. There is no difference in efficiency between the two. No difference in PAR/$ either.
