lol he said the earth is cooling not warming up. that makes no sense. our ozone is depleting and our waters are getting warmer, why are all these giant jelly fish and giant squid finnaly coming out of hiding if the earth is cooling down........

Scientists believe climate change — the warming of oceans — has allowed some of the almost 2,000 jellyfish species to expand their ranges, appear earlier in the year and increase overall numbers, much as warming has helped ticks, bark beetles and other pests to spread to new latitudes.

so awnser me this, how the hell is the world cooling down IDIOT?

well g13 I didnt mean to hurt your feelings

maybe you should read up, you been livin under a rock?

$20 for a killawatt. lets you know what's up. don't recall how much current it can handle, but almost 1kw iirc.

check your bill. some companies have different day/night rates (usually where it's colder. you get a lower night rate since it's likely you'll be heating). some companies have a progressive rate system, where it starts cheap, and the more you use, the more each unit ends up costing. the idea here is to get you to use less. if you're using excessive amounts of electricity, you're going to be billed excessively. this is usually in more populated areas where there's high electrical demand.

a lot of companies have a financial assistance program. you should see if you qualify. that'd help loads. and if you're in an area that has day/night rates, shift the light cycle so it's mostly nighttime. it may hinder when you can visit your plants, but...

i dont know where you lice but out in cali our electric co. charges on a rolling scale the more you use the more they charge you per kw it starts off at like 14 cents and get up to something ridiculous like 45 cents per kw if your over the "baseline"

BTW, last time I looked the base rate was 22 cents per KWH. I believe that tier rate increases that when you go over your base average.
Damn, I thought it I was paying alot, but seems like you guys are f'd with the power compaines out there.

first 1000kw of the month i pay 0.085
and after 1000 i pay 0.10

But I do get my bill estimated alot because i forgot to lock the doggie door when meter man comes by. But been trying to remember now and I got a budget billing where they take the avg for last 10 months or so and pay that amount.

If you live in a deregulated state, find another provider. The difference between highest and lowest around here (Texas) is 8.9/kwh to 18.0/kwh. I just switched my aunt and saved her $150/mo. We're tiered as well, but the price goes DOWN when you use more.

My bill is like 300 and change and that's a whole house where sum1 is always home and 1600w jus in my gardens lights. Perhaps u r on equal billing. When on equal billing they devide ur last yrs total and devide it by 12 mnths. So if for 2008 u used say 2400$ all year then in 2009 u would owe 200$ each month. But if u go over the 2400 for 2009 ur gonna owe the extra and seeing as this is the first bill of the year, the probly tacked on the difference. ur bills will be higher this year as well as ur total was higher but still devided by 12mnths. This happened to me a few yrs bak and it sucked! Good luck!

you need to take into consideration all of your energy draw for your grow..... fans, heaters, coolers, ect...............
Also, i run a hps 150 and it raised my bill $50 max with all my equipment. to run a 600 watt you are definetly looking at alot more money. also peak hours will raise your bill drasticaly, sometimes 300 percent depending on where your located.

I pay around .32 cents per KWH at max/peak rate, its dynamic as well, meaning the more i use the more they charge.

when are peak power hours or how do you find out? Also what are all these people talking about bells n whistles for there lights

bells whistles i think mean things like water pumps fans, controllers, tv's

and what not

power consuming acessories that may or may not be used in the grow,

Do you have gas or is your heat running on electricity, too? Everyone I know had a huge energy bill recently because of the cold snap down South. Could it be just a cold winter?

o yea everyone with an indoor setup needs bells n whistles thanks for clearing that up for me big p. People have some weird abbreviations in here

I am running a 600w hps/mh lighting system. I currently got a 400w mh bulb in there and am curious why my energy bill would be $326. Usually the bill is anywhere between 80 and 100. I know i am doing something wrong because from what i have read it should have only gone up maybe $50. Please someone help me out i am a broke college student and don't want to have to kill my babies.
i doubt its the lights man. if your live in a cold place could re running more heat than usuall, thats how mine was it only went up 100 bucks tho. but try n not run so much shit like tvs n lights wen not using.
