Well you can germinate with'em. What do you think about using a handful in your soil for water retention AND aeration?
Think they might mold? Maybe not if they're all soaked in H2O2 and water first.
Does anyone already do this by chance? I tried to look it up but couldn't really find anything positive or negative.

would not do it , buy peat pellets they are made for that and have nuterents in them to help start. cost 8 dollars for 25

cotton is organic matter and will just decompose, if you want something that helps with moisture retention try Soil Moist crystals available at Lowes and Home Depot for around $15.00 for a 1lb package.
