Cost Effective Medicating

So, this will be very highly subjective, and vary per person's individual habits, and preferences.

In terms of getting the most bang for your buck, what is your preference in medication form of choice?

For example, I actually prefer good full melt hash over bud any day. Sure a single gram of good quality hash costs what an 8th of top shelf bud costs, however, if USED in a proper way (vaporization or skillet hits) will outlast that 8th by on average 1.5 days.

With bud, I go through about a gram a day, with some good earwax, budder, gold dust, hash oil, or a good true HQ full melt hash or kief, well a gram will last me ~5 days, sometimes 6, sometimes 4, depending on how I feel those 4-6 days.

Don't get me wrong, I love smoking bud too, but there are several other advantages to my preferring a single good big skillet hit over smoking a bowl or a joint (when I roll, I either use all mids, or cut top shelf with 1/3 the weight of the bud, of halfzware shag to aid in even, slower burning, and to maximize the efficiency of a rolled smoke stick. Sure smoking joints is grossly inefficient, and does not belong in the same zip code as cost effective... but, who does not find the occassional social joint a good thing.

This is why I still smoke some bud. With hash, well you get a big hard fast concentrated hit, yeah.. big time. That one hit gets me just as stoned as if i had just smoked a good fat joint myself. 95% of the time the one single hit is plenty nuff... though sometimes it takes two. Keep in mind that vaporizing hash, well if you use a glass bong and do skillet hits, you will start to notice a build up of condensated vapors. This is nearly as potent as the original substance, much unlike bud. However, all that is absorbed into your lungs, and into your system. Takes about 15 minutes to fully absorb a single hit (takes 5 for the hypoxia to phas out) after you exhale.

Also, some say hash can make your breath smell bad... it can. The vapors that condense in the bong, condense all up in your mouth. This really only applies when hash is vaporized, and not so much when you 'top' a bowl with some hash (a WASTE i tells ya). Easy way to get around this... use an alcohol containing mouthwash. Listerine works (may need to double rinse), though one could also use cheap liquor to the same effect. Also best done before brushing.

I do find that if I were to stick 100% to hash, that yeah, I may be paying $40-60 a gram, however that gram goes much further than an 8th of top grade when comparing effects. Another great thing about hash, you don't have the same smell as you get when burning weed. Also, the fact that a single hit is generally all that is needed to reach a desired level of effects is a winner... though it does take some special equipment... a vape or some kind of 'skillet' setup (broken dental mirrors, stainless or titanium, work great for this... and by broken, i mean the mirror busted and broken out, cleaned with acetone, then burnt in). I made mine using the head of a broken dental mirror, attached to a handle I made from a wire coat hanger, and bought just the bell base portion for $15. I use the coleman propane tanks (got a bunch for $1 each a while back... usually run $2-3 when bought at least in pairs, lasts me 2 months+ each small tank) and a 'pencil' push button torch head (can be had for abut $15-20 at just abut any target, walmart, or home improvement store... there is a cheaper setup, but it does not have the push button starter).

I also, will be quick to point out some bad things about hash that you don't have with bud....

Ease of use... def. not there with hash...

YOU'RE GONNA COUGH... if its a 3 part answer... first lack of oxygen, a good hash hit will displace 80+% of oxygen... when smoking vapor (vaporizer, skillet hit) compared to actual smoke. Second, it literally leaves a thin layer of hash on your lungs, which takes 10-15 minutes to be completely absorbed. Third, it is hot vapor hitting lungs... it irritates them, and sets off the wonderful tickling sensation at the bottom of your throat that lets you know a cough attack is coming up... lol.

Hard to do on the go... bud always has that benefit (whether rolled or using small concealable pipes...)

People know what bud looks like... some people don't know WTF hash even looks like, other than what they have seen online.

When purchasing hash, it is harder to determine quality than with bud. I also like to let my earwax go through some extra cure time to smooth out the hit a bit more. One week in a drawer inside a heavy small paper bag open ensures all the VOC has left, and also lets it 'firm up' a bit more.... which makes for easier hits... you also have to ensure there is no petro-smell (cheap hash has this from the terpenes present... the better the product, the more it should 'smell like medication'.... seriously). This is why with being in CA, i am loving it.

Most hash is made from trim, shake, and 'ugly' buds. However the good stuff is made from whole bud. This is why good earwax and full melt hashes run $40-80 bucks a G, and you don't always get what you pay for... I know a place that sells earwax for $40 a G, always have and they always will, and it is pretty good. Only problem is that they sell out rather quickly.

Dosing is trickier than with straight bud. It either takes experience doing, or lots of T&E. It is very easy to 'over medicate' using hash if you are not careful... I found this out the hard way when i once sat down and did a .25G in one sitting... when I woke up 6 hours later on the floor, covered in bong water I spilled all over myself, and with a big bump on the head. Yeah, was the first time I ever actually PASSED OUT like that from THC. Sure have had it kick my ass into bed, but never actually pass out. When I came back to... I was still high as a kite...

So for me Hash is the most coft effective means of medicating. It is also easier for me to smoke a single hit of hash, than smoking a bowl or a joint. Sure it is a 'hard' hit, and almost always makes me cough, and hell, I even have passed out from hypoxia while taking skillet hits (forgot about that 10-15 second windows after exhaling before you get oxygen back into your system). I also would NOT recommend smoking hash vapor for any asthmatics... as I know after a good big hard hit, my chest feels tight for about 5 minutes after. It is still not near as bad as my lungs feel after smoking a big fat joint or blunt....

if you are aiming for efficiency then cut out smoking and switch to vaping/eatting. When you smoke it most of the goodies are destroyed and you end up with the leftovers, like burnt toast. By burning your weed you are using up roughly 3x more than you need to to get high. and you aren't even getting all of the ingredients like you would with a vape. I've been using a vape primarily for just over a year now and i can't even get high from smoking anymore. When i do smoke, it feels like a 2nd hand high. Oh and my stuff lasts about 3 times longer. Yeah that's like magically finding 3x more weed for the rest of my life.

Hash works in a vape but it has to be cleaned way more often.

I know you mentioned using a vape but you referenced smoking constantly so if my post does not apply then feel free to ignore it.

Yes right. I have a vaporizer too and looove the high i get from it. i use som great Jack Herer haze and it really is great. But to make it really cost effective i make "good night stash" from the leftovers from the vaporizer. This i will smoke at night when i am going to sleep. I just run it through the volcano 2-3 times for the stash - sometimes i run it 5 times if im not going to use the leftovers.

Yeah, if not vaporizing eating would be the next best THX delivery. You get all the THC this way compared to smoking for instance - this is probably even more efficient than vaporizing too really - vaporizing just give me that imediate observant active buzz high that i like soo much ;O)

In the general context smoking=using in any heated sense to include vaping, and in specific tenses where implied smoking=combustion.
There are also ways to vaporize as I mentioned I do with hash, via glow-rod in a liquid extract bowl or a skillet hit. This is my primary method of use. The gram and a half of really good wax i have right now will last me till next wednesday. i also have half an O of bud, which will last me a month now... when i am out and about it is easier to smoke a J unfortunately... so gotta adapt to the situation. but yeah, smoking a J is like nothing anymore. I have even used kif in a bowl with a glow-rod at about 425 degrees, and noticed the huge difference. Never got into vaping buds though... just never had the equipment, nor the desire, until recently. But sadly I am heading somewhere that unfortunately, the only medicating I will be able to do will be some kif rum... a fifth of bacardi 151 with a half ounce of quality kif mixed in and aged for 6 months in my closet. One shot is like a large hit of good wax, and hits fast on an empty stomach. Definitely some good night time medication....
