I would agree that such an encounter might leave an officer with feelings of unresolve however they have no authority to act exclusively on their emotions. With nothing more than a "gut feeling" provided by your deliberate attempt to protect your rights, any action taken against you would be subject to extreme scrutiny and would likely lead to the dismissal of any charges you are brought to bare.

Keep in mind the 911 thing.. they can provide you with that bit of information (or lack there of) that could help indicate to you if a sunny disposition and flowery vocabulary is more appropriate... Not to mention that there are criminals out there that pose as officers to facilitate their crimes..

By the way, I didn't make that flow chart up myself (doubt I got it correct word for word) I have seen it on laminated business card sized things (with other statements/questions like asking "Are you currently or ever been affiliated with law enforcement?" to identify undercover cops or nullify anything they see/hear after that point)

Asking that question has no benefit to you. Cops are under no obligation to answer honestly and nor does it make evidence gathered thereafter inadmissible in court.

Someone (I generally trust/respect) recently mentioned that to me, also officers/agents of the law can participate in illegal activity's to facilitate entrapment with no repercussions. (don't know how true it is, had a feeling it came from some TV show when I herd it)
Allowing law enforcement to be criminal in the pursuit of "suspected criminals" just sounds unsettling to me (especially if an officer is the genesis of the illegal acts)

The card I mentioned was something I had seen in the 90's (pre-patriot act, and any other unconstitutional legislation from the last decade or so) and may have been dated by that time.
Though the meat of the thing should still hold true as its aimed directly at protecting your 4th 5th and 6th amendment rights. I don't believe they have been repealed yet.
