Considering DWC!! Questions!

I've been lookin' into DWC and it looks like a lot of fun and more of a challenge, which is why I grow weed...for fun, and a challenge (to get the most of the best bud I can :)).

I was wondering if anyone has recently started a DWC Stealth Cab Grow and if they could point me in the direction of good cheap airstone/pump combo's. I dont have a local hydro store for a long while, so looking mostly for Wally World like alternatives :)

Also, I was wondering what the easiest/cost effective medium out there.

I use rockwool from Ebay and pumps and air stones and bubble curtains from Wal mart LOL I think a pump is 10 bux and a packof 2 airstones is like $3 $ if you get the small ones a bubble curtain is like $2...

And if you want a challenge do dirt LOL it seems to me that most of the problems I ever see are from people with dirt(no offense to soilers). but honestly im a complete n00b and bubble buckets are THE simplest IMO... any problems I can instantly change the water and resolve it and they are versatile. My current grow is an experiment with an Ice cream bucket that I got from ...You guessed it Walmart LOL

Yes! Wally World tour! It's always nice when they have what your looking for!

What sorta Res set-up is you using? I've got an old aquarium I was gonna black out and build a nice solid top to...Wondering if that would be efficient enough with good enough airflow. I'd like to really have it bubble so it's almost a constant mist like at the bottom of a dam...

the more air the better and like I mentioned you can use anything that has a place to put the water and a lid you can hold a plant in.

Currently im using a 1 gallon ice cream bucket lol but before I used a rubbermaid container ($4 @ wal mart). check out the 2 links below for my previous and current grows

Hmm this is good, I think the fish tank I have will be perfect for my little guys.

So with a DWC how does one go about changing the Res?
Do you just have a back-up res that can hold your plants while you clean and change the res you have now??
How dangerous easy is it to shock the roots beyond repair???

If you spliced weed succesfully onto an apple tree do you think that the apples that grew on that tree might some day have THC in it??

man i use 2 5 gal buckets... mix the water and nute together before u put the water into the buckets... check the ph and ppm if u want and thats it.. check on them a couple times a day.. see how much water they drink and just replace it with water.. change the water and nutes every 7-10 days..hell ive seen people grow good shit changin the water every 2 weeks..DWC is easy and alot better than soil grow i think...THA GOOD BUDS COME FROM THA WATER!! lol but screw havin a RES. just do ind. buckets with 4 gallons of water in each and get the 10$ bubbler from wal mart... has two seperate valves so u can run 2 buckets off one pump...5 inch air stone is like 1.50... all u need, that and your nutes...im using fox farm hydro grow big...soon switching to canna :) but fox farm is workin hella dandy...buckets are cheap too

Would recommend you use 5gal or higher tubs. Make sure you have enough air to give a mist above the water line of about 2 inches. Medium should be just above this so you don't keep it constantly wet, rockwool will cause stem rot if you do :-(

Res change is an intersting point. I say this because until recently I would do as you have asked, I have a spare bucket which I would fill with fresh nutes and just move the lid and plant to this. After encountering problems like the brown slime (http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=55259) and root rot I learned about benfecial bacteria and that you should never completely change your res. Now I just top up and every week or so remove and replace 60% of the water. Topping up every day also allows you to control your PH.

Roots are about as hardy as the plants are and can handle a lot. It's disease you need to worry about, most cause by water temps.

Will try keep an eye on this thread and help out where possible:eyesmoke:

Peace

Thanks bro!
I'm still lookin' into it this as an option. I still can't find some where local to get a good medium like rock wool and hydroton.
Slowly finding other cost efficient ways to improve my grow! Can't wait! RIU is such a huge help!
Thanks guys! Pics soon! hairs are commin' in and buds are starting to mature! week 4 could be exciting!
