I see people that have 1 plant per pot and others with large tubs with 6-10 plants or more per tub.

What's the real benefit of individual tubs? any real reason?

the benifit of individual tubs is that each plant will have the oppertunity to maximize its nutrient intake. IOW if there are more than one plant in the res one plant could use more of the nutes leaving other plants without as much as that one used. i use different tubs for each strain, not each plant

Speaking only for myself, if I'm going to go to the trouble of running the res, I may as well get more out of it and that means 2-4 plants. I have different totes ranging from 3 to 10 gal of actual water so depending on the strain (I also don't mix strains in a res) and how many plants, I can choose the right amount of rootspace.
