Start them with cfl's or t5 floresent lights . If u live in a climate that gets cold I would not start them till early spring as in 1 month they should be around 12" tall and they grow faster as they grow taller so think space before you decide when to start..Also if you plan on moving them outside pick a strain that is suited for your climate for great results. And happy growing

go the cheap route,

4ft. t12 shoplight fixture, with 6500k daylight deluxe bulbs!!! I have used these to veg forever with good/great results for what it is and the fact hood and bulbs is under $20.

This is not so much for right now I wanted to plan in advance, looking for a solid setup that is not to pricy... I live in the desert and have grown in the middle of winter before I think if I vegged them they would do fine out there but anywhoo this is for spring...

Best lighting hid hps get them, keep your plants inside to cold unless you live in a hot climate.

Living in So. Cal we love or well me and my homie love the winter, short days means I can throw mothers/clones or etc. outside in the dirt and they will flower on their own.

Our low night temps might get to the mid 40's sometimes maybe..... maybe at the coldest... which just helps with coloration. But other then that, from like Oct.- Aprilish early May we can still grow outside no greenhouse needed, just nothing will veg it all flowers out... if you go outside to late in May it will start to flower then once the days lengthen up it goes to veg again which can be a PITA.........

Otherwise winter is fine, and those who say its to cold unless ur in southern mexico are wrong.... might be to short of days to grow massive outdoor monsters due to no veg time.... but i can for sure still flower some bomb!

Telling you man, I run T12's to this day for veg, then have 2-3x 600 hps, over 4x4 tables.... the amount depends on the season as heat can be an issue, and in the summer even with aircooling and a.c. its just easier on both my powerbill, and my overall comfort of the plants to only run 2.

The t12's put out very little heat.... even with 4 sets running which btw is only $90ish bux out the door.... and only uses 320 watts.... which vs. my 400MH they win out in the fact that they make way way less, give me a better more even coverage footprint, and save on the powerbill.

My next wish list item is an 8 bulb t5 in 6500k. This would be if I felt like spending the $$$$ and such my next purchase to replace my now 3 year old t12's. ( the bulbs btw, not that old. )

I second the shoplight, and growing outdoors is climate based. I live in tropical climate myself, summers are too hot and humid to grow. Winters are better. Most do auto's, veg indoors at sunrise/sunset times, then put them out to flower.

Best time to grow is summer, long days, long veg, big plants. You are in a dry climate, deserts usually cool at night so as long as you can get to them easy to feed and water I would assume your best yeild would be growing from may - sept

However so long as you dont deel with frost or super low temps in winter I dont see why you couldnt do an 18/6 cycle inside, then stick them out and the cycle change should put them into flower. Fem seeds so you could experiment with 1 and use some cheap cfl's for veg...

Main thing is to find a spot you can keep them partially shaded for the first week or two while they adjust to the sun... Dont want to burn them.. Cutting some growth and putting it around them works well too, as the cut growth (bushes/shrubs) dies and the leaves fall off its slowly lets the sunlight in....
