Companion Planting

Just curious if anyone else employs this method. I grow several different veggies on the outskirts of my light footprint. The light isn't direct enough for my girls, but I find that pretty much everything I plant in this area grows like crazy compared to just sitting in a window during the winter. I've always used companion planting in my veg garden to deter harmful insects and diseases. Recently I had a minor thrip issue in my grow room. After I treated, I decided to grow some onions, since I was running low. Normally thrips seem to be somewhat persistent, but after two sprays the thrips disappeared, and have not returned. I know that thrips, spider mites, and many other nasties hate onions, and I wonder if that has something to do with my now bug free grow room.

Anyone else try this?
