Spruce is Very similar to Ruffed. Hard to tell the difference sometimes in ME. They're just as plentiful as ruffed so I dont know why you cant shot em.
Maybe some "pot pot pie".

I tried it and it worked. Butter + trimmings + water to file line. In the pressure cooker for only 1.5 hour. Baaaaam. The butter was very potent and less smell around the house
