Colored CFL's?

I saw that they make red ans blue colored CFL's, would supplementing a CFL grow with these make a difference?

depends.. are they that color because they pass therough a filter (ie, a colored shell, like colored xmas lights), or do they emit high levels of red/blue spectra?

I looked at the light specs, and its 2700K, for all of them, blue, red, green, I don't know if they'll make a difference.

the cfls i use are blue spectrum (6500k) and red spectrum(2700k) the blue spectrum is for the growing stage, (first 6-8 weeks). the red is for the budding or flowering phase. both these spectrum are essential to good herb growing. are you sure the glass isnt shelled, tinted, or stained those colors?? they shouldent be

yeah, the bulbs you have would be ideal for flowering.. well actually an hps would be IDEAL, but if your into CFLs... Also, they make CFLs in the 6700K range that would be great for vegging.. i have just standard CFLs, 27 watters... doesn't say anything about the color temp, but they had more lumen output than the 6700k, and they were five for twelve bucks at ace, so i was down

dont use those tinted lights. just use red spectrum lights (between 2700k-3500k). the reason is the regular untinted light waves closest match the rays of the sun

Ok. If your lights that your talking about have a different color glass shell around the actual light inside the glass, then don't use them. Those are more of a "party" bulb or something that people would use for a variation of color. You would want to use a colored spectra, to create different velocoties of light at different stages throughout the grow. If it is tinted, I'd say a definite no.

these cfls probly dont have the output to bloom (unless you use a few of em)but will be fine for clones and casual growth in the growing cycle. i spent 400$ a peice on my 8 light ballast cfls. they work wonders!! the light itself barley gets 80f so the stalks can all but touch em be4 they burn!! one light can bloom roughly 20-25 plants!! this cfl rivals a 500 watt hps just minus the heat, pluss it uses half the electricity and the bulbs last up to 4 times longer... it was a great investment.... -never use tinted bulbs though-

Yeah, they're tinted glass, I'm not gonna waste my time on those. Anyone now about using L.E.D. lights for growing?

Thanx for all the help!
