Colorado sheriffs sue their state over gun control...

54 of 60 sheriffs in Colorado have joined the suit.

"“These bills do absolutely nothing to make Colorado a safer place to live, to work, to play or to raise a family,” Weld County Sheriff John Cooke said at a press conference on Friday. ”Instead these misguided, unconstitutional bills will have the opposite effect because they greatly restrict the right of decent, law-abiding citizens to defend themselves, their families and their homes.”

Yeah, that about sums it up.

I wonder how the chiefs of police (not the sheriffs) weigh in on this one. It's been my experience that the police chiefs generally and structurally favor gun control, so long as it doesn't affect their access to the special toys. cn

That's what I've seen. The elected officials generally think their voting populace is not bright enough or responsible enough to own guns. I guess that's ironical deductive reasoning at it's finest.

I don't know about how it works where you are, but chiefs of police are not voted on here(DFW).

Sherriffs and constables are though.

The city manager or mayor hires them(chief of police) here.

excepted from link in piece:
raised concerns

Separately, a Colorado pro-gun group, the Basic Freedom Defense Fund, said it was circulating a petition to recall the president of the state Senate, Democrat John Morse, because of his support for gun control measures.
Morse, a former police officer, said he would likely face a recall election later this year as a result.
"If they [the gun lobby] are successful in removing the Senate president in Colorado, it will have a chilling effect on anyone who takes them on but if they fail they will be exposed for the paper tiger they should be," he said.

What I find to be "chilling" is Mr. Morse's cavalier disregard for the 2nd amendment.
Coloradans should recall this bozo....

More coopting of terms...purposeful...

Chilling is a legal term under the Constitution. It has to do with fettering the press. You don't have do anything but chill the sources and that is not lawful.

So, to use this here in this context, at this time in the national debate is to add whitewashing to what chilling even means. We actually want to chill those that think gun owners and gun lobbies are paper tigers.

The evil is the misuse of the term.

If the IRS actually chilled a Federal Election, it is not beyond the Bounds of Reason, SCOTUS could, (not would) declare the election to be void.

Stay out of the bait bucket. Brush your teeth. This is a manageable condition, Buck.
