Collecting signatures in AZ? How can I help?

So I did a quick read a few hours ago about NORML and the whole 150,000 signatures needed thing for MMJ to be on the ballot, but I couldn't find any place I could help?

Anyone have any ideas or actively participating, even in another state? I could use some guidance I've never done anything like this.

I'd really like to help out the cause by getting some signatures going.

Thanks,

MPP's initiative is by far the worst initiative ever written for medical cannabis.....This initiative reads like it came straight from a Cannabuisness owner's boardroom...You know the one who is going to be making millions running the dispensary....

This initiative is totally discriminatory in the way it singles out only a few of the conditions treatable with cannabis and leaves up to the state what else gets added yeah sure....Nothing will ever get added....

This initiative is totally discriminatory against the poor and ill....You HAVE to buy from the dispensary giving the owner millions of dollars and you CAN'T grow your own....What a nice shot in the arm for that dispensary owner....Unless you live 25 miles away from one then it is a special permit with approval.....Geeez this is a God given plant....For all of Mankind not just a few select with money.....You HAVE to be allowed to grow it yourself....Period....Anything less is discriminatory.....No money no medicine....Give me your money says the dispensary owner....

This initiative violates your God given right to privacy....Reports to the state government along with doses or usage and your name and address.....Geeeeez where did your medical privacy go.....To use a God given plant for your ailments and you have to report to the government when where and how much.....

All I can say is we need medical cannabis in Arizona for the sick....Not just a certain few sick but anyone who can benefit from it's use....That is a patient/doctor decision not the government.....We need privacy in our medical records......The government keeps track of too much of our lives that an invasion into our medical records is intrusive and unconstitutional.....We need to be able to grow for ourselves this God given plant without government intrusion.....All of this IS NOT possible with this Cannabuisness sponsored initiative.....

We need another initiative in Arizona cuz this one sure isn't going to cut it....This one will guarantee high salaries for the dispensary owners....Let me figure this.....Hmmm at $20/gm (what they get in CA at the dispensary) that would be $560/oz. and the limit is 2.5 oz every 2 weeks that would mean that someone who needs the maximum would HAVE TO pay the dispensary $2800/mth for their medicine.....For a weed they should be able to grow for themselves at home.....We only have one shot at this and if this one goes through we will be stuck with it.....This initiative reeks of Cannabusiness influence.......

Too many Arizonians know the benefits of cannabis and are anxious to get something legalized....Well this ain't it.......This will be a shot in the foot for this LONG overdue acceptance of a scientifically proven healer.....This is THE MOST medicinal plant on Earth....Let us not waste our vote on an initiative that will invade our privacy, set limits on WHO can benefit, and line the pockets of the Cannabusiness owner......

LOL its still an outlaw state so everyone is afraid to speak up. Sheriff Joe got ya'll scared. Arizona has more than 150K signatures already my man.

"
Despite being thwarted three times in the past, supporters of medical marijuana in Arizona are pushing a ballot initiative for this November, and have submitted over 250,000 signatures to their Secretary of State.

Backed heavily by funds from the national Marijuana Policy Project, the Arizona Chapter of the MPP dropped off 103 boxes of signatures on Wednesday, and will find out later this spring if they have the 145,697 valid signatures needed to make the ballot.

Under the new initiative, patients with a "debilitating medical condition" would be able to buy and posses two and a half ounces of marijuana, as long as they have a doctor's recommendation. They would purchase their medicine from state-regulated, non-profit dispensaries. A key aspect of the initiative is it would forbid employers from firing approved medical marijuana patients for failing a drug test, as long as they were not using or impaired at work."

12bonsai, I have to disagree. Arizona is broke so scream's Jan Brewer. Much like California and many other states getting the general public to dispel the nonsense about MJ is an important stepping stone and I feel ANY move in the right direction is a good one. As far as the business aspect goes, I have a friend that plans to open a dispensary there. As is he, I am also for the tax on mj that has ALREADY been voted on. Arizona is the ONLY state that has NO HEALTH CARE FOR ITS KIDS! Jan Brewer cut it out of the budget, remember? The tax on Mj would easily cover health care for AZ's kids again. try to focus on how far California has come in such a short amount of time, they are voting for legalization this go around.

Touchet, you didn't address any of my concerns about this initiative. First off and most important is the fact that this initiative does not allow a patient to grow his own medicine. Being forced to pay a dispensary what ever price they deem fair with NO fair market competition. See, being able to grow your own medicine is required to help set a fair price for this herbal medicine. To change an initiative after it has been voted on would require another vote by the People and in the meantime a patient who is say on SSI or is a minimum wage earner could not acquire their medicine even though qualified. Who is that going to help? The dispensary owner for sure. Now without cultivation for the patient it forces an unfair market and the prices stay high. Also good for the dispensary owner. No cultivation means no competition. Good for who? I hope you get the idea.

The second point you did not address was the limited conditions that qualified for this herbal medicine. Then leave it up to the government to decide what gets added on. Right from the start this should be a matter between a patient and their doctor what condition may benefit not a government agency. My God this is more sounding like a constitutional infringement on my rights as an individual. I have the God given right as proclaimed in the Constitution to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness for starters. The medical use of cannabis fits all three of those basic God given rights.

This initiative was written by the folks that want a share of the Medical Marijuana business in this state without competition right out of the gate. To be able to charge enormous prices to the sick and dying.

There are other issues about this initiative that worry me and I will be more than happy to elaborate if you like.

JMHO......

Touchet, I think I know where you are coming from which isn't the medical use of cannabis but the recreational use of marijuana. I too am all for the recreational use and believe the best route to go for that is the MERP Model. Tax the recreational use but leave the medical use untaxed. And of course the expression of your right to cultivate following the beer model and not the alcohol model which would set a fair, honest and competitive market. And of course tax as you do beer if bought commercially.

This is a medical initiative and I know it infringes on the constitutional rights of the sick. Once an initiative is passed any major changes to it have to be voted on by the People. Arizona needs a compassionate initiative. One that has the best interests of the patient first and foremost. This initiative has the dispensary owners interest first and foremost. BAD BAD BAD..... Did you read it???

JMHO.....

I didn't feel the need to address your concerns as those are your concerns, not mine. I simply said I disagree. Several seem to be unwarranted, some patients CAN grow their own. And those that cannot are already "paying dispensary prices" on the street so its no difference to them, well except now they wont go to jail for it, thats different. You have no idea where I'm coming from. I am a Krohn's patient so MJ would directly help me. I also have occasional seizures from an industrial accident in which I sustained multiple closed head injuries. At one point I was placed on Topomax, Lexapro, and klonopin. All of which could be replaced by MJ for me. And even at 20/g STANDARD street prices I pay now, the MJ would be cheaper than filling those (3) every month. Also I own a house in AZ, waaaaay west side. Pretty sure I'll be able to grow. I am looking at the bill as an individual, with my own individual concerns in mind, my health.

And I have read every word several times in regards to the "Did you read it?"
http://stoparrestingpatients.org/home/initiative

"13. "QUALIFYING PATIENT" MEANS A PERSON WHO HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED BY A PHYSICIAN AS HAVING A DEBILITATING MEDICAL CONDITION."

notice the conditions are listed no where in the initiative. It was left open for a reason.

"18. "WRITTEN CERTIFICATION" MEANS A DOCUMENT DATED AND SIGNED BY A PHYSICIAN, STATING THAT IN THE PHYSICIAN'S PROFESSIONAL OPINION THE PATIENT IS LIKELY TO RECEIVE THERAPEUTIC OR PALLIATIVE BENEFIT FROM THE MEDICAL USE OF MARIJUANA TO TREAT OR ALLEVIATE THE PATIENT'S DEBILITATING MEDICAL CONDITION OR SYMPTOMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE DEBILITATING MEDICAL CONDITION. THE PHYSICIAN MUST:
(a) SPECIFY THE QUALIFYING PATIENT'S DEBILITATING MEDICAL CONDITION IN THE WRITTEN CERTIFICATION.
(b) SIGN AND DATE THE WRITTEN CERTIFICATION ONLY IN THE COURSE OF A PHYSICIAN-PATIENT RELATIONSHIP AFTER THE PHYSICIAN HAS COMPLETED A FULL ASSESSMENT OF THE QUALIFYING PATIENT'S MEDICAL HISTORY."

my doctors and I are waiting patiently. The reason AZ even has an initiative this year is because of the heir to progressive insurance. Money talks and bullshit walks. He dropped millions on this cause!!

So to you, Peter Lewis, THANK YOU.

As I stated earlier, I think this is a step in the right direction. Your entitled to your own opinion of course. Most of your angst seems to be against dispensaries and their owners. As someone that intends on being a registered care giver I have talked to a lot of people that work in the MJ field so to speak now. maybe you should talk to some from here.

And last but not least, YOU didn't address my only concern. As a father of 3, health care is a far more important issue for me than MMJ and I am a potential patient. Pay attention to this part ok, WE ARE THE ONLY STATE THAT HAS NO HEALTH CARE FOR KIDS!!!

When MMJ can fix two problems at once, I'm all for it. While I'm obviously all for the comforting of the sick and dying, I strongly believe that AZ's future with a generation of babies all with out health care and families homeless, thrown the fuck off welfare is bleak at best.

You have much bigger problems in AZ other than MMJ.

and that is JMHO
