Cold Issue

Hey guys I've got a predicament. I'm doing a winter attic grow and it gets kind of chilly in there. It doesnt drop below freezing but I'm guessing it stays in the low 40s to the low 50s. My lights are t5 high output so they wont heat the room. My current plan is to buy a small space heater. Any other suggestions on how I could get my temps up. + rep for help:leaf:

if you're still vegging, getting HPS or MH and keeping it 24/7 is certainly better investment. hydro or soil?

Buy some panda Film and construct yourself a tent. Make it as small as you can and still have room to work in. Put a Zipper door in it. and cut holes for your ventilation. This should help you keep it warmer around your plants.

Panda film is a very durable visqueen that is black on one side and white on the other.

And why couldn't you use a low watt HPS, like 150-250 watts? This would help heat your area during lights on, and then have a little heater set to come on when lights out.

I understand why you would need to use the T5s for space and IMHO you wouldn't be able to heat it up with a 150 anyway... Just get a small fan forced space heater and use it to heat as needed. That's the only viable option to get you up 25+ degrees... I agree with danglybits- make the space small, make/buy a tent and save yourself dough. Good luck!

Alright Ill look into that film stuff. And the hps would be too close to my plants. Its only about 4 foot tall in there so I use t5s to maximize my space. I just feel like I would burn my plants with an hps.

Thanks man my plan is to get a small fan space heater and just put it on a timer to turn on for 2 hours and off for 1 or something like that .

these are usually hazardous, theyr not intended to be left unattended. if the fan breaks, they melt and burn. that's what caused the great fire that killed dozens in the swiss alps tunnel so beware.

damn for real? What if I set it on like 1hr on/2hrs off? That shouldnt burn and it would keep my temps higher than they are now.

check their safety warning. there might be some that are safe, maybe automatically turn off when things go wrong, not sure, but the regular ones i know have a clear warning on them not to leave running unattended... timer wont help in safety, it will take minutes to melt and burn

i had the same problems, but mine was in a absement. i wamred it up with my 400W hps during 24/0. when i initiated flowering, a bought a TMP-Dne plug in thermostat and set it for 70. if it gets to 67, a space heater kicks on in my growbox and warms it up to 75, always staying warm even when the lights are off. TMP-Dne can be found at your local hydro store for around 60-90$
