cob led fixtures - some quick questions

so after some intensive research i know i want a cob led setup for a grow - looking at a 2x4 tent, would https://www.tastyled.com/product-p/t3-2100.htm be sufficient for a couple plants in there? it says 692 ppfd for a 2x4 space - would that be alright for veg AND flower? the spectrum on those is 3000k, again is that sufficient for veg and flower?

would a different cob led setup elsewhere be more ideal? i'd looked at northern grow lights too but between them and tasty led they're almost all sold out of everything xD. i've looked at timber grow lights a ton too but i want something i can just plug and play that has everything done right for me already (power supply, heatsink, fans, etc). i know another user on here had mentioned one of the tasty models being ideal because it's run at 2150 ma, is that something important to consider also? (are ones at a lower current not nearly as good?)

also - because so many things are sold out and the market seems to be catching on and upgrading, should i just wait? or is it fine to invest in something now that won't become horribly outdated/devalued instantly?

No interest in trying to figure it out and build your own? Im working with a roughly 2 x 4. I was able to build a rig that works great from reading and asking questions here.

Tech is changing all the time. If you buy the best right now youll still be ahead of the game for a while.

it would no doubt be rewarding to learn and figure it out, but i'm whatever personality type that would rather pay a little more to have it done for me already (without keeping myself up at night that i screwed something up and my house will burn down). it's cool you were able to do it yourself tho.

Gotcha, i felt like it was very rewarding so i always suggest the diy approach. In my experience the impt part of a lamp for a 2x4 is having a frame that covers most of the 48" length. Using a real bright cob in a 24 or 18" case isnt the greatest. Better to have a 36 - 44" frame and use more, lower wattage cobs. Other growers might know if anyone builds a lamp with specs like that. I use 4 cxbs and 4 v29. 3500k and 4k. About 550 watts at the wall.

Nothing wrong with your approach at all. Some people enjoy the DIY process, but you and I may not be among them. I had my own modules built.

Tasty is just one of several great COB LED fixture builders and any of their units HD likely last longer than the rest of your growing career. You'll amortize them the first time you crop out and after that it will be many years before replacements become economically attractive.

ah interesting. that's good to know. there's a 4x4 tent i could do but can't find anywhere that ships it to the US (roof qube rq120), and because of the weird roof shape of the room, it's either tiny 2x4 tent or open room grow

These cobs are interesting, Could someone tell me what i could expect to yield in a 5x5 tent with cobs? and how much wattage it would pull compared to my 1000w hps bulb

was about to pull the plug on a tasty led t4 but for a few hundred more could grab that one... i guess my concern is the height of the tent with that light. gonna be working in a 5'3" tall tent, if the light recommends 3' above canopy at veg and 2' at flowering, is there even gonna be space for this type of light in the tent? :\ only reason i'm forced to work with that height is super odd shaped room.

Hey man, I wrote a long drawn out post in here yesterday, but when I posted my text disappeared and I was too high/ tired to re-write it. Wanted to ask why you're growing? For fun, smoke your own, or sell some too? Any way the t-3 is a little under powered for flowering, I would do the T-4 or even look into Pacific Light concepts. With that said, either way you go, you should be able to pull over a gram per watt with the cobs with a good grow, so its up to you really.

ah damn lol sucks when that happens. gonna grow just to support my and my partner's habits, we go through probably 4oz a month and the cost is just ridiculous. i own a home, have always wanted to grow, figure it's time to do it and do it right!

any input on if the height of the tent is gonna be an issue with cob leds? figure i can scrog the fuck out of it but still unsure if i'm gonna be ok or not. (5'3" tent height, could maybe squeeze a little more height but that's about it i think)

also, noticed the pacific light concepts are all passively cooled, wouldn't the tasty led's have the upper hand on that?

ready to buy but still not sure - the amare stuff has more 'stuff' going on and is super appealing, but their site has been down for months and many are saying to stay away as that's a pretty bad sign for the company's future (and the future of your light in case of defects). the tasty led's look appealing as does the pacific stuff but waiting til i can rule out amare.

Amare or ecosunlight looks the best right now give it a year and they will all be using more than cobs and you'll be wishing you did

I heard bad things about tastyled build quality. Go with https://northerngrowlights.com/collections/all instead. And 4 cobs for a 4x4 tent would probably be pretty sweet.

had looked at those too but everything on the site is sold out (unless i want 4 of the small ones lol).

They're still doing stuff if you send them an email. They crafted a cob led for me, took them 2 days. They're just behind on creating inventory I guess. But I'm sure the others will work well too!

no, how is that sweet? the idea is more cobs spread over a grow with lower wattage.
