As Doer said in another thread, making co2 into a supercritical state is not a DIY effort.
That would likely be very dangerous to make a homemade pressure vessel, because what if that shit exploded.
There is no problem with butane as long as it's clean and not from a lighter fluid can.
Butane has a few advantages over co2, the obvious one being that it can be used in a closed loop extraction system at atmospheric pressure so it doesn't require a large pressure vessel and an immensely strong air compressor to reach to pressures needed to turn the co2 into a liquid. I also think butane is a more selective solvent for cannabinoids. In fact skunkpharm discussed this in one of their articles.
I haven't researched in any great detail about these extractors but I have ordered co2 wax from the club and I imagine they do very long soaks with co2 because the wax I got was very aromatic but also very dark in color, so I'll leave u with a link.
