CO2 experts needed please!!!

Ok so i have heard that the CO2 in the air is 550ppm on an average. I have also heard that if you bump this up to 1100ppm it could help the plant grow twice as fast? i am wondering if this is a myth or if this is true. Also does that mean i could add more CO2 and get results faster yet? Help needed thanks much.

There are lots of different ways of getting extra CO2 into your flowering room. The easiest way of course is to just import more air in and extract out the old air.

But plants can consume around 4 times more CO2 than what is available in air so a lot of growers set up CO2 tanks with regulators and solenoids to allow for the correct ppM of CO2. There are also CO2 lamps and candles which will add some CO2 to the flowering room but of course not as controlled as when using the CO2 tanks.

For me I use an intake fan to bring in more air than i need, and an oscillating fan to blow it over the plants, and a carbon filtered extractor to toss that spent air outside.

BTW just read the subject title of this thread, so better state that I am not an expert on CO2, and would use the tank system if I could afford it but its way out of my price range being some $1000 or more to set up.

yeah i plan on using a tank system and i am getting a CO2 controller that will adjust it automatically to what i set the ppm at but i need to know what i should set my ppm at? i have a 250 watt mh light for veg state and i have a 400watt hps for flowering but i am wondering what i should bump my CO2 up to or what could i bump it up to? i have this in a fridge and i could boost the crap out of the co2 if need be but i dont know if this is beneficial to the plant or not as far as speed of growth. Any help greatly appreciated. thanx

how good of an idea is going to the store and getting dry ice and put some in a bucket of water now and then?????

I bought az 20 lb O2 tank and regulator for about $300. Its only $25 to refill but lasts a long time. The amount depends on the area of your grow room. I have used this and works well. Oh, and YES, O2 does increase plant size and buds. here is a method to obtain 1500ppm by area.CO2 Calculator - Greentrees Hydroponics hope this helps.

the average is more like 300ppm, shoot for 1600ppm, a tank/regulator is your best bet.. temps need to be upwards of 90 degrees for best absorbtion. It can be used in veg and flowering but most only use it in the flowering cycle. the room should be sealed when adding c02 for best results and no fans extracting air as this will just lower the co2 level very quickly. It is far from a myth as many indoor growers use c02 enrichment for almost all types of plants...

I've used dry ice but there isn't any way to regulate it. I would just leave about 20lbs in a cooler with the lid slightly propped open. I would replace it as soon as it is all gone. It's not the best way to add CO2 but it's fairly easy and cheap.

Has anyone ever heard of using carbonated water and misting the plants for CO2, just curious if its worth the effort

i wasnt saying that i thought adding co2 was a myth but im wondering if doubling the co2 cuts the growth time in half.

Its easy, nearly free, and works. I dont measure CO2 in ppm, but the yeast gives off CO2 in their respiration. Its easy to tell its working when the gas is bubbling out of the container.
seriously, It costs about 5 bucks.

i bought a CHHC1 it is a full environment controller. it has fuzzy logic mode for a CO2 tank and it also has a control for the heater, cooler, and humidity control. it is pretty much amazing.

anyone posting about dry ice or yeast i need info about true control over my CO2 not just production of CO2.

1500 ppm should be ideal. There is about 300 ppm in the air, so by adding 1200 ppm you should be good in veg and flowering when lights are on, they dont intake co2 when at rest. Buy a tank on e-bay, make sure it has a good test date on it and bring to a welding shop to get filled or they might swap it with a full tank for like $25.00.

Numbers vary.

Here outside: ~400ppm (gotten #'s from 100-500ppm)
Inside ~700 (live alone, no pets)
Ideal for plants is consider to be 1500-1800ppm

I've heard many a claim on results. 1/3 increase seems to be the high of believable. (If all else is spot on. Hence my statement on all CO2 threads that its the *last* thing to add.)

rock on some real numbers so 1500-1800 is where it should be if i increase this does it help at all? and is it true that they dont use CO2 when they rest? that just doesnt seem right cuz when i sleep i use air. thanx everyone for the info..

1500 ideal 1800 still no prob and makes up for leaks. (people don't like above 3000. OSHA approves 1000)

No, if lights are off, they don't use CO2. (my room will actually rise about 200-300ppm overnight, Even when not using CO2) Lights + CO2= food. no light, no food. you are an animal, not a plant. (or a mineral either); different rules.
