CMH Bulb on MH Ballast

Hi I was thinking about buying a 400w metal halide grow light and ballast. Im wondering if i can run a Ceramic metal halide bulb on a 400watt metal halide ballast. I see people saying you can use a CMH bulb on a hps ballast but nothing on mh ballast. Thanks for the help guys.

CMH lamps in 250 and 400 w run on HPS magnetic ballasts. They will explode on digital ballasts that do not explicitly note compatibility with the CMH. For 150w and lower they run on pulse start MH ballasts.

Well I should mention that this at least applies to the Philips MasterColor HPS- RetroWhite.

CMH will not work with ANY Digital ballast, has to be magnetic, but if your ballast is magnetic should be fine
