Clunkers To Cash

cash for clunkers was done way too prematurely and for the wrong reason...AND stupidly.

the concept of government incentives for new vehicles is something they should have waited until
the impending conversion to alternate fuel, to justify the cost. that would not only impact the arguable
realm of environmental impact, but more importantly usher in an era without the same degree of gasoline
dependency, which i think most americans would be content with. i think that would be a wise and ultimately
lucrative way to go. that i wouldnt mind spending some tax dollars on.

but with that aside they should have limited the option of vehicle to either american company or at least
manufactured in america. that would have at least further justified the cost in terms of economy/labor.

You gotta start somewhere.

"On average each year, they will save 287 gallons (1086 liters) of gas, more than $700 in fuel costs and close to 3 tons in carbon dioxide pollution."

"Likewise, America will be using nearly 72 million fewer gallons (272.5 million liters) of gasoline a year because of the program"

Theres a start..

Dont be so narrow minded brah.
If you are okay with buying your neighbors car for them via tax increases and creeping fascism, cash for clunkers is wonderful. Unintended consequences are often the downfall of many a "good" program.

it WILL save 72 million gallons and since the USA uses 433 million gallons of gasoline per day that equates to 4 hours of gas savings. Not very much when you look at the big picture. read the thread the math was already done.
