Hello everyone! I have a grow journal up, but when I started that thread I had complete different intentions with the lighting setup and type of medium I was gonna use for the grow...Now, there's a complete new setup going with a complete new type of lighting system and I feel it's only appropriate to start one under this specific thread. So here are some pics of how they are doing from this point on... If you wanna see how they looked from seed, check out my sig.

These are the specs for the grow:

Soil
BIOCANNA BIO Terra Plus (BIOCANNA :: The Bio Solution for growth and bloom ::)
Amendments - 15-20% Perlite

Nutrients
BIOCANNA BioVega, BioFlores, BioBoost, Cannazym, PK 13-14
(Using everything from this nute list except the BioVega and PK 13-14 at moment of pics)

Lights
Hydrofarm System Comp Fluorescent 125W Daylight [FLCO125D]
(heres the direct hydrofarm link just in case you arent directly familiar with it: Hydrofarm - Hydrofarm FLCO125D System Comp Fluorescent 125W Day)

6 - 40w Warm 2700k CFL

65w Warm 2700k "mini monster" CFL (LOWES)

Lights are 3/4" - 3 inches from the plants at all times...

Climate
435 CFM Utility fan for an exhaust.

The temp is at a constant 72F / RH 40-50% at plant level during the "day"...

At "night", the temps drop to as low as 66F / RH 40%.

I will keep you updated. I WILL BE POSTING STEP BY STEP PICS

Ok, so here's hows they are doing so far....

What's in here? (lights were ON in the cab while this picture was taken.. what leaks? :-P)

Exterior shot of passive intake vent.

Homemade charcoal filter

And here we are

Here are some temp readings after 2 hours with the lights on.. As you can see, the temp reading is taken directly above the light fixture

An interior shot if the passive intake vent.

Full body shot of the ladies

Across the canopy

BEFORE...

Two days later...

More canopy shots.. good shots of light proximity and placement, too...

Ok, here are some macro shots from LAST WEEK...

Hope you all enjoyed! :bigjoint: Comments and suggestions welcome!

Thats a pretty nice little cfl setup you have thrown together there, you will get some nice buds out of that, love seeing the Stanley blower hanging there.
actually you got the lasko like me.

I just want to give you a huge congrats man.

You've done everything right so far. Excellent looking plants.. with healthy looking foliage and beautiful wonderful buds coming out now.. and some of the plants have some really beautiful top cola buds on them. Congrats my friend.. congrats. 100% A - is what I would rate this post at.

Excellent job man. :)

I haven't been using cfl bulbs that long. I use to use my 400w MH/HPS for my past grows. But ran into a problem.. the electric bill was getting outa hand.. having to pay for using that 400 watts of power every day started adding up pretty quick on me. So I switched to CFL bulbs. Congrats.

Thanks smppro, this is my first grow and I wanted to do it as right as I possibly could for my first time... I sure do hope I get some decent buds out of this, too!
I better! lol

I got that Lasko fan for $35 at Lowe's! I managed to convince the manager to sell me the display that they had just put up (saw an associate put it up that same day... out of box) for almost half off! Me and my cheap bastard skills:-P What a deal, eh... I love this thing

How long have you had the fan? I keep mine on ALL THE TIME. It's been running constantly on medium power since I bought it about 2 months ago...

Would you happen to have any pics of your setup?

ganjaluvr, Thanks for all the praise! I know they're growing great cause of all the TLC they recieve, but other than that i'd say I worked out the kinks rather nicely... I had a 250 watt HPS Sunbust hydrofarm system and THAT was producing way too much heat, too expensive on the bill and not efficient in any way possible.....

I was a skeptic at one time... Didn't think you could get anything other than fluffy light buds out of CFL's until I saw some posts and such and wow... i'm so glad I switched to CFL's.

Thanks for posting! More updates soon :weed:

Love:peace:

Nah sorry i dont put any pics up, ive had my blower running for about 6 months non stop, still runs fine, no noise, its cooling a 400w hps in a cab, i also have a little cfl box i cant seem to get rid of, 2ftx1 1/2frx 2 1/2ft, 4-42w cfls mounted a horizontally a few inches from the top on the back wall, then a 26w mounted on each side, produces nice little fat buds. I just cool it will the cheap $12 bathroom exhaust fan.

Thats cool man, I totally understand about the pics...

Wow, 6 months straight? Well thats good to hear!
What are the dimensions on your cab? This Lasko fan is cooling a 400 watt HPS?! You must at least have a cooltube lol

I say keep that little CFL box and use it as a vegetative or a clone room... I need one of those

That needs to be stickied, those pics are awesome! That is also a model cfl setup, I wouldn't change a thing. Except one, if I read correctly you have all 2700k bulbs. Most cfl growers seem to prefer a mix and even in late flower they want 25% 6500. It would be very instructive I think if you posted some more pics panned back from the setup to show how you designed it to have the ability to place lights where you want them. Thanks and congrats!

Thanks bro!!! I know, I have to give credit to one of my best buds who helped design this box. It was actually practically all of his innovations so yeah.. I know this is a great setup... I love how much difference having mylar on the walls makes. Another thing about the box is that it's AIR/LIGHT tight.. While it was put together, it got smothered in silicone in between the wood and the mylar... Even hopped in the box and made sure that it was COMPLETELY DARK, and not a spec of light was leaking in whatsoever in a bright ass room... I believe there are a couple of pics from that day... But i'll be sure to post the dimensions, measurements and details with photos, soon... It really just started off with 8 small pots and a 2' fluorescent fixture with two T12's in it.... the pots where just over some newspaper lying on the carpet of the closet.... yeah, just kinda worked out the kinks as it went.

I failed to specify the spectrum but the 125W in the Hydrofarm reflector is the 6500k
I'm thinking of putting another clamp fixture with 1-3 (depending on heat production) extra 26w 6500k's though to spread out the blue a bit more... I'd hate to see these babies stretch!
Hey man that's awesome looking out for me and I really appreciate it! know that

have you had the pleasure of growing with CFL's before, Illegal Smile? :weed:

ive read of people using them for over a year with no prob. Yes the light is a 400w in a 6in cooltube, dimensions are 30"x20"x64", its the wardrobe they sell at lowes, the right of it is the flowering, the left side is like 18" wide 64" tall and divided into 3 vertical sections, the top one for blower and electrical, middle for my bonsai mom and clones, then bottom one for nutes and storage. I cant even bring myself to use that cfl box as a veg cab, right now i have 6 plants in there, each in a 6in pot, each fimmed with about 4-5 heads, should be nice, oh yeah, they are cheese, afgan kush, trainwreck, lemon skunk, whiteberry, and wonder woman. the hps cab has dp blueberry, whiteberry scrog, and 2 og kush. The hps cab is about a month ahead of the cfl cab.:weed:

Yo, Skunko... welcome to the thread.. you will not be dissapointed with that reflector... but I suggest doing what I did, Keep the 6500k in there to prevent stretching

Good luck man!

Cool man, new journal. Have you seen those 300w Sunleaves CFL lights? They are pretty sweet, I used one to veg out my mother for my current grow. They run pretty cool too, I got mine for like $150.

Dude, I have and I think those could benefit in the right situation or set-up.... Is this current grow in your sig? I've always wondered about the light output of those in ratio to cost.... Like for example, I know that I can get fifteen 40 watters at "2600 lumens" each for $150 with a total of 39,000 lumens that I can spread out, so to speak... as opposed to having it concentrated in one bulb, u know?

But then again, I haven't tried em out myself... What spectrums do they come in? I'm curious cause all of the hydro shops i've been to don't seem carry it... hmm

I wouldn't mind trying them out in a small veg box, which is getting built very very soon...

Thanks for stopping by man!

The Comet 300 is rated at 18,000 lumens and uses a full spectrum 6,400-degree bulb. Good for veg, I have not seen a bloom bulb though.

Seems like 15 little cfl's would put off a lot more light and heat as well.

Here is a picture of the mom under it, she outgrew the light quick.
