Cloning

I just joined and finding my way around here...
i learned to clone in Oasis. I have decided to switch to Grodan cubes.
Using Oasis I put the cubes in a bed of perlite in a slotted tray within a nonslotted tray. Humidity dome and heat mats. I have great results but want to switch over to rockwool as this seems to be a little more forgiving (oasis dries out way to quickly, lost babies when one day having to work late and they didnt get watered in time- having to water twice a day- living in a new area and on this day it was wicked hot)
That was too big a loss, hence, switching to rockwool.
MY QUESTION is this...
Since the rockwool holds way more water, should I put the cubes in a mesh tray insert inside a tray with a little water in the bottom? Seems my old way using perlite would keep the rockwool TOO wet. My OG babies like to dry out a little.
Thank you

i dont think that would soak up too much water doing your old way, i would try it like your used to but ith with rockwool since that seems like a soild way

<Babymama> posted a question in the forum re switching from oasis to rockwool...https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/560158-cloning.html anyways, see you guys later. gotto go make babies BOYAHH

<Chickenpoop> heres a branch shot
<%Ky|e> Hey Babymama
<%Ky|e> Can I make a suggestion
<%Ky|e> I failed HUGE on rockwoll also from it drying out and just stupid shit
<%Ky|e> then I switched to Riot rooters/rapid rooters
<%Ky|e> These grow cubes never fail me
<%Ky|e> and are hydro/dirt friendly
<Chickenpoop> rapid rooters have microorganisms in them too to help the rooting process too

Everyone makes cloning more difficult then it has to be. Try this, sit down with your grandmother, ask her how she took care of her roses. Then go out and get a cup of water & spray bottle. Cut your stems, put them in the cup, mist 3x a day, and place them under lights. Change out the water every day for 2-3 weeks and that's it.

Also helps to use a dark cup with a lid, to hide the roots. For a detailed step by step, check out my journal link below my avatar pic.

I use rapid rooter's and I never have problem's.I never mist my plants though, I learned a looong time ago that if you feed or water through the leaves you take away the need for root's.To all of the new cloner's out there, only spray the dome. You need humidity but only for 4 days at the most.Try removing your dome for as long as possible after 24 hours of cutting. If you see a limp cutting put it back.By day four when cell division has begun you should be able to remove the dome all together, these conditions will get you exposed roots by day seven every time.

Thank you for your insights Vindicated. I read your journal..."stupidly easy"?? Yes, I think we all know by putting a cutting in a cup of water usually eventually youll get roots depending on what type of cutting. However, your journal says 2 to 3 weeks youll get roots. For me that is too long. We cloners dont want things more difficult. I want better, healthier, stronger, faster hence the experimentation. I do appreciate your suggestions tho! Thank you!

Well, the babies have been in the incubator for 4 days now. Interesting, the Oasis and the RR domes are showing humidity but the rockwool is not. I normally dont like to touch for the first 4 days but felt I needed to up the humidity in the RW dome so I misted a little everyday. Btw, the RW is more work preparing. After soaking them intitially, I had to give the cubes a 1,2,3,4 flick of the wrist to get rid of all that water. Moist not wet! No wilting in all 3 trays. Looks good so far. Its a root race now haha!

UPDATE
I found that the different strains like different mediums! Overall, the roots were most amazing in the Rooter plugs. The RRs were one day faster than the Oasis, and the Oasis one day faster than the Rockwool. I had 100% with RRs and 99% with Oasis...75% with RW. I am switching from my MO of Oasis to Rooters. All roots were beautiful with the RRs...However, it seems GDP was the only strain that prefers RW, and OG had same results with Oasis and RRs.
FOR EASE AND OVERALL ROOT DEVELOPEMENT I AM SWITCHING TO RAPID ROOTERS!
Oasis~ APK 7 days RW~ APK 8 days RR~ APK 6 days
TW 7 days TW 8 days TW 6 days
GSC 9 days GSC 10 days GSC 8 days
OG 10 days OG 12 days (and weak) OG 10 days
GDP 10 days GDP 9 days GDP 10 days
BD 9 days BD 10 days BD 8 days
WILL POST PICS SOON!
Thank you!

Babymama, If you want the very best clones with the least amount of effort, and a relatively plug in and check back in a few days you should go with a aero-cloner. We run the 120 site EZ Cloners, and have 97-99% success ration with ALL of our strains in the same cloner. I get roots in 5-7 days and a couple of strains in 4 days. We also run RR's and RW for certain patients or clubs, but for the most part all of my cloning is done in aero. This is what works for us, and we need the extra speed of a couple of days when you have turn over like we do. This may not work for you, but reading your history it seems like you would bennefit from a plug and grow cloning system. Just my .02
