Cloning...

Okay...ive got two good plants going and i think that they are both female....i think i see preflowers but im a newbie and i dont really know if its preflowers or new growth starting...i think they are female preflowers...ive seen what the two look like so i know what im lookin for but i need to know when and how to clone...where do i cut (n i dont know what a node is or that technical plant names)??when should i cut??what do i put it in to start the clone going....can someone gimme some step by steps on cloning...thanks...:bigjoint:

how did you manage to grow a plant and not know what a node is? Anywho, look up on youtube & cloning and there is a bunch of training videos that are detailed enough to get you on the right track. IF you are this lost; no explanation is going to make sense right now.

Peace & good luck

no need to be a smart ass about it i just have never been told...i feel like ppl can tell me a lil information rather than get on u tube and be told to cut under the node close to the pistol or some shit like that....sorry if im too dumb for u guys but theres alot of smart ppl out there who know how to word things for burnouts like me...

alright.. here you go..

first get around your supplies.. youll want a VERY sharp cutting utensil.. some rubbing alcohol... your rooting medium.. and some cloning gel or powder..

so heres how to do it.. first you'll want to sterelize your cutting utensil by dipping it in the alcohol.. then find what branch you want to use for your clone.. branches closer to the bottom are better... you'll then want to make a 45 degree cut at the node (where the branch splits off from the main stem)... make it as clean of a cut as possible.. then take the cutting utensil and gently scrap away the outside layer of stem from the bottom inch or so of the cutting... this exposes more flesh for the rooting gel or powder to come in contact with allowing for more absorbtion of the rooting hormones... once you have scrapped away the outside layer dip the cut end into the gel or powder place the cutting into your rooting medium.. if you are using rockwool cubes make sure the cubes have been presoaked for at least 20 minutes.. some say to soak them over night.. but i dont believe it is needed.. its up to you tho... once they are in their rooting medium place them in a warm humid area until they root.. if you use a humidity dome you only need to cover them for the first couple days.. if you dont plan on using a dome make sure you mist them down a few times a day to keep them from drying out... thats pretty much it...

good luck

okay sampson...thank you...now like i say im pretty sure that i see preflowers on my prettiest two plants and they both look like female ones....now im gonna wait a few more days to make sure but i have another question...if the lower branch that i have in mind will work good im gonna do it....its small..its about 2 or 2.5 inches but yet it has six sets of leaves....is this one good to use or should i aim for the bigger, more mature branches???thanx

well this brings on some questions... so your total plant height is under 6 inches and you see preflowers?? are you growing an autoflower strain or are you flowering your girls (knock on wood) already?? or are you saying the bottom branch is on about 2 to 2.5 inches long?? also what makes you think you are seeing preflowers?? seems like your girls are a little young to show.. but i guess its possible..
ill give you my answer in either situation... either way, once you see nodes and branches, you can take a cutting for a clone... i would personally recommend waiting until you see alternating nodes.. ie the nodes that are growing stop growin next to eachother and start spacing themselves out.. this means the plant is fully mature and ready to flower...
now if you are flowering already, which i really hope you arent, you can take a cutting or two.. but more than likely they will be immature clones (assuming the plant is still young)... any clones taken from an immature plant are themselves immature, and i clone taken from a mature plant is itself mature also.. so waiting until maturity is best...
if it is an autoflower strain then you cant clone it.. the life cycle is to short and the clone will end up flowering before you can clone it again.. the only way to keep autoflowers going are to seed a batch and use those seeds.. but that is a pain in the ass...
lastly if you are still vegging your plants there are 2 things.. first is you dont see preflower and what you are seeing are new growth sites getting ready to grow... i think you have a young plant.. are you seeing 2 little white hairs (female) or things that look like grape clusters (male) popping out at the nodes?? if not then you arent seeing preflowers... the second option is your plant is actually 4 or 5 weeks old.. just serverly light starved or nute locked or something.. its really hard to tell without more info tho..

Here's a really good cloning method https://www.rollitup.org/advanced-marijuana-cultivation/98386-why-do-my-clones-keep-dying.html#post1189507
I always make my cuts about 6-8 inches long, and I haven't had one under 4" survive, but bigger than that I've yet to have a failure using this method, just make sure to keep them warm (over 18c, 65f) and they grow, no dome, no misting, no sterilising blades, no rooting hormone and no hassle. You literally just have to top up the container every few days and roots will appear in 10-14 days.
Hope this helps, good luck.

k my girls are about 2 months old and yes jus a small bottom piece is the 2 incher...my plants are about 15 inches tall...one about 18...yeh they are doing good...just didnt know if i needed to use a bigger branch or if i could use a small one with lots of sets of leaves like the one that i explained...

You want to be burying about an inch to an inch and a half in the cloning medium, which wouldn't leave much above ground of a two inch branch. The bigger the cutting is, the better chance it has of surviving.
While it is growing roots, it has to feed off the energy stored in it's leaves, so obviously the more leaves there are, the better it can develop roots and grow into a successful plant.
As I mentioned before, I have tried taking small clones, and they only seem to survive if they are more than 4" tall (including the buried portion)

same here i have a hell of a time with any thing ove 4 or 5inches tall. but i keep on trying the larger ones anyway:hump:

i have plenty to clone from myself:hump: so i keep practicing BUT have yet to have a successful rooting of a 6" cutting  i am trying a new method at the moment and hope it works

Peace

If you can go out and get a copy of Weed World. I believe issue # 80 is still on the stands. If it is, there is a two page write up with step by step instructions on what you need how to do it and lots of pictures. That will really help you out a lot and explain a lot to you.

Are you growing an autoflower strain? or are you under 12/12 lighting (lights on for 12 hours and off for 12 hours)? If you are not growing an autoflowering strain and you are under 18/6 or more light (18 hours light and 6 hours of dark) then what you are seeing might just be new growth. Sometimes when the leaves are starting to come out and you see the first sign of them, they look like little hairs coming out and can mimic the look of female preflowers, but after a few days you will see more and more leaf and you would know for sure.

Good luck.

yeh defconi dont really know the strain or anything...i just know that my weed man brought me some good shit...not con bud or nothin but just some as katt williams says REGALER WEED...lol...but it was good...had like 4 seeds in the oz and i decided to try...i think im doing a damn good job so far but like u said it could just be new growth...they got watered again tonight and yeh im on 12/12...giving bloom nutes (10/54/10) or somethin close to that...i can post pics but my camera wont focus on the nodes...ha..i know what a node is now...but yeh i will jus keep watchin them n let u guys know somethin...
