Cloning using a 36 site clone king

I took cuttings and put them in the cloner. It is now 2 weeks and nothing at all has happened. Plants still look good but has not done anything root wise. I have not used anything but water which is changed out regularly. The tent they are in is about 70-80 degrees depending on day and night. I have 3 different varieties in them and not any of them has done squat.
Anything I should be doing differently? I see everybody posting about roots in a week... well not me. I used this last year and got lots of clones but it would take around a month to get anything going. Obviously I could just use seed and be a heck of a lot faster.
I took some more clones today and am going to try my luck using some dirt. cut them at 45 degree angle, scrape the ends and dip in clonex and put in moist dirt with perlite and then poured more water in the dirt using a solution that had the rest of the clonex gel hormones in the small cap I was using to dip in. Got them in a dome of course and under the same lights as the others in the clone king.

Just out interest, did you use the same procedure for the clones in your cloner?

I bought an inexpensive generic cloner off Ebay, and the first time I used it my success rate was 0%. The company that sells the cloner asks that if you have any problems, contact them first instead of giving them negative feedback on Ebay. So I did, and it turns out that if you scrape the ends of the clone -- and I had read somewhere that you should scrape the ends for a bigger rooting zone -- it won't work. Since then I take my cuttings, cut them at a 45 degree angle, DON'T scrape the ends, plop them directly in the neoprene collar (no cloning gel), and have had 100% success rate -- with all strains.

Incidentally, I live in an arid part of North America and I've never used a humidity dome, but I do have a cheapo lamp that I bought at a second-hand store for $2 which I put a Y socket in (available at any hardware store) and two blue spectrum CFL bulbs that don't total more than 50 actual watts (so the lamp doesn't burn up on me). I put a little bit of cloning solution in my reservoir with plain tap water, but even the guy who sold me the solution at my local hydro store says it's not really necessary. So I won't buy any more when I run out and see how things work out at that point.

As for the amount of time it takes to get clones using a cloner, I too have read of people who have them within a week. Good for them! They're better growers than me, I guess. (I also don't get colas the size of Secretariat's cock). With me, after a week-and-a-half, I have nubs and little root hairs. The clones are usually ready in 17-21 days. Incidentally, I never switch out the water when I'm cloning, leave the cloner running 24/7, and have a timer on the lamp so it runs 18 hours a day. As for the amount of time it takes to clone, that's fine. I take that into consideration when I'm doing my planning. I was a complete failure trying to make clones with rockwool cubes, a dome, etc. So I'm very happy knowing that I'll have a 100% success rate and the clones will be ready in two-and-a-half, three weeks.

Hope something in the above -- don't scrape the ends; a dome isn't necessary; plain tap water; some blue light hovering above the clones -- is the solution to your problem.

I did not scrape these that are in the cloner. I have done that before with others that were not scraped last year and it didn't make a difference it still took a long time. I have my cloner in a corner of my tent with my other clones under mixed blue and red light from T8's. I thought about making a dome over my cloner using metal clothes hangers and some kind of plastic (maybe glad wrap?) for it to trap some humidity.
I've been pondering and wondering if it did have more humidity for the leaves it would maybe go a little faster. I've also seen some of the more expensive cloners that are around 300-500 bucks have a humidity dome as well. In the summer here it is very very humid and now it is pretty dry since it is winter. Maybe a difference?
I had to change my water here because it started to get the funk in it.

I got a clone king and it is the easiest thing I ever used. I just use tap water and never change it. I get roots easily in 10 days and I leave them in a few more days until I am ready to transplant them. I used to use Jiffy pellets in humidity domes for many years and I had that system just about perfected, but the clone king is easier. I have used it under flouescents and a 400mh, never directly under the lights, but off to the side of the room. No humidity dome either. I say keep trying and don't over-think it.

It takes a LOT longer in plain water. Use a rooting compound or gel, you'll end up with results in about 7-10 days.

Vitamin B, plants love Vitamin B for rooting. It usually supplied in sufficient quantities in rooting gels and compounds.

don't use a gel/powder in an aero cloner. it clogs the manifold and the misters. i only use an aero cloner. i start to get roots in four days and they are fully rooted in two weeks. no direct light. floros are best but still about three feet away from the ones i use. cooler temps. like 70ish. no dome necessary. the mix of air and water in the bucket is key. don't let those misters get clogged.

I use the gel that came with my system, ez cloner, without a single problem. I could see powders building up, the gel dilutes enough that it doesn't become a problem, either way it's no big deal to take the manifold out and run hot water through it.

I run a 250mh over seed started plants, and keep the clones off to the side...

It has been 3 wks now and nothing. Change the water now everyday to keep slime at bay and the water cool and oxygenated. I have some vitamin b1 on the way to put a couple of drops in the reservoir.
Temps in my tent are about 70 degrees.
The 4 plants I have in their are Medusa, wonder woman, critical mass, Tutankhamen. So you would think that not all of em are slow takers.
I have other clones I did in bare soil that I change water out daily in on a heat mat and dome. I'm gonna see if that will take quicker! Those are 3 days from cut.

I've ordered some stuff to try a whole new method and see if that's better. I got a bubbler that adds oxygen to the water like in a fish tank. I'm gonna tie a sheet of styrofoam and punch holes in em for stems to go through. Place stone in water and float the styrofoam on top with some drops of vitamin B every 4 days and water changed every 2. I need lots of clones and I'm not getting shit.
I got a pump, misters, and everything I need to make my own very big cloner but what for if the process won't work for me?

I saw Ed Rosenthal in one of his books feature a lady who used a sheet of styrofoam just like you said..... She raved about the ease of use and her success. She simply used a Small fishtank light.

I'd also suggest getting some root gel on top of vitamin b..... The object being using every amenity at your disposal to increase likelihood of success.

For example, I only need 4 clones, I took 14, I only needed 4..... I now have 10 that I don't know what to do with.... Lol... I did everything possible to increase my rate of success. Increase oxygen, bigger air pump, vit B, and clone gel.... I didn't even change my water we're on wk 4 but, it's pretty cool on the basement floor, and the 250mh, 3 feet above, keeps the air warm and humid...


The roots on these are so big, I have a hard time pulling them out of the little cloner hole without damaging the roots.... All I can tell you is be patient with yourself, I know it's a cliche, but, if I can do it you can...... Believe me! =)

Good info.
I’m using my new King Cloner for cloning (used once but for seed germination in rapid rooters- worked well with a heat pad underneath and a timer so it sprayed once for 30 minutes, every 12hours, snd veg-LED above).
It’s been about a week and no nubs yet; I scraped them this time and never do! Might switch out water and use plain distillled (no mammoth p and clonex like I had) and add a few new cuts. The bottoms of current ones are a little bruised-brown but should be okay?

I realize that my most successful clones have come from simplicity and lots of patience.
Have one I need to plant started in a shot glass with a Rapid Rooter plug, coozy to keep glass dark, and put in an upsidedown wide mouth jar for a dome. Left on heat mat inside dome with veggie starts. Probably rooted days ago, just noticed last night at 2week mark.
