Cloning problems

Hey,

I tried and failed a few times, do I need to have a mother plant. is a mother plant just a plant that's allowed to continue to veg?
what I was doing was, growing a plant from seed. when it got to about 10-12 inches, I'd take a cutting, dip it in root gel. and then into either rockwool, soil or those pellet things. Neither time has it ever worked

i use rockwhool..
i simply soak the cubes in water with sum rooting hormones (i just pour sum jn there haha) take a cutting dip in plain water cut again at 45 angle dip in cloning gel or powder and grab cube( gibe one good shake to get eccess water out) and stick it jn cubr but not the hole thats already there. flip it over and just stick it in the cube. put in dome amd keep it humid. shouldnt have any probs.
i tried cloning without the rooting hormons amd my rate dopped. went bavk to the hormomes and my rate is about 90 percent

a mother plant is just the plant you take the cuttings from, and hopefully its a female. all the cuttings are its "kids" and shes the mom lol
you dont need a dedicated mother plant, just grab some cuttings from a plant thats in veg thats growing really well.

dont give up just do a ton of experiments and see what works for you.
cut some at an angle scrape the sides split it up the center about a 1/4 inch dip in hormone, cut some at an angle scrape sides lightly drop in rockwool, so on.
maybe make a clone machine theres a bunch of ways to make one and alot of resources on this site on how to.
be sure to wait 15 days before ya think they havent started rooting. the leaves will turn yellow, doesnt seem to be a sign to just throw them out.
took me 8 months before i got clones to work, turned out my water was shit for the job, and i was to impatient to wait 15 days for the lil spikes to pop. you could really go from one night nothing to the next night spikes all over the stem.
hope this helped hang in there.

When I grow a plant from seed I figure it will need to be 5-6 weeks old before she can give reliably viable clones.
Ideally, the cutting should be large enough that you can see a hole down the middle of the stem. Younger, smaller clones
are harder to root than older and larger clones. So it sounds like you been taking cuttings from a plant less than 5 weeks old.
That's a big part of your problem.

Any (female) plant can be a mother plant and moms are kept vegging while giving up clones.

Sounds like you may be skipping some vital steps. If you aren't using a dome you won't be able to keep the humidity up close to
100% where you need it. A seedling mat is also vital if you have had failures. Keep water standing on the floor of the dome. With
the mat providing heat the combination will keep the inside of your dome misted with condensation. That's what you want.

Good luck, BigSteve.

Do u have a heating pad? Take clips from bottom part of plant if possible, as this is where more rooting hormones are. Clip at a 45 degree, take a razor blade and shave the sides, becareful to not shave off to much, just the outter skin, then split the end in fours, like a cross, then dip in rooting hormone,I use clonex, stick in pre-soaked rockwool cube. Place in a plastic dome with cover, with heating pad underneath, water as needed, slowly work lid off, rooted clones a 100% of the time!

takes time. once you learn though, it's like riding a bike

Here is how I cone and I have a 99% success rate. Take a cuttings and put in water once you have all you cuttings trim off extra leaves and I also trim the tips of the leaves as well. Make a fresh 45 degree cut on the end of the stem, dip in rooting gel and put cutting into a Rapid Root plug. Place plug in a cloning dome for 1-2 weeks keeping it closed and humid inside I keep my clones lit 24/7. I have good results using just tap water in the cloning dome but I have started to use RO water with Bio Root and CalMg Ph'd to 6.5 with a little faster rooting and thicker healthier roots.

mornin' man and welcome to the hobby.

anyway, cloning isn't all that hard but it is a skill and so there is also a learning curve you must climb regardless of which method you choose to clone with.

here is a link to a thread that teaches a simple and passive method of cloning that requires very little expertise and being passive, it is almost foolproof. ...if you study and apply a few simple steps you are guaranteed success.

...and here's a few pics of the results you'd be able to expect in very short order.

...and here is a shot of my first simple setup with these, note the light from below, it is there to provide heat to warm the reservoir.
