The first thing I would consider to be stalling root formation is Nitrogen and stored carbohydrates. The less stored nutrition that the plant has, the better cloning. Clones have to exhaust their reserves in order to have a need to produce roots. I have found that when I slightly deprive my mothers of Nitrogen, their cuts root quickly. That's why clones look like shit right before the root. They are/have exhausted stored nutrition in the leaves. As SIP said above, there some strains that are more difficult to clone and yes the do have their own preferred method of the technique. Trial and error is the best advise I can give. Every time you try, you learn. Every time you fail, you try harder. But if in peat pellets or loose fill in a pot, you need to make sure shit is light and airy, and most importantly the cutting has to be snuggly packed so It is making contact with the media. If it's loose, root formation will be delayed. I think that's why a lot of people prefer the aeroponic or Rdwc and fogger cloners-- experiment though, that's what makes this shit so much fun.
I didnt know this!! I have found different methods with different strains is a must for cloning. It sounds like makes sense, If they have all the built up ferts in there leaves and stems why root?
I have pretty good luck with peat pellets, BUT.... the big ole BUT there has to be a PERFECT balance to make them work.. The peat has to be light and fluffy, yet tight to the stem. They need to be moist at all times, too wet=rot too dry= wilt There needs to be a high amount of humidity in the dome, they need fresh air every 24 if not 12 hrs. they need ambient light and like to be warm but not hot. I only spray them once a day, if you spray them more the cells start to depend on you giving them water thru osmosis and will also not want to root.
once you get the balance just right, their will be huge roots growing together and they will start to dry the pellets out faster. I have to cut my pellets apart most of the time, I like to let the roots grow thru the pellet and make multiple roots not just 1 or 2. they take off much faster than a cutting with only 1 or 2 roots.
good choice for cloning and follow my advice the best you can and you will get those bitches rooted!! The fastest I have seen roots dig out thru the side of a pellet was 3 days, hard to belive but it did happen on a couple out of thousands I have made over the years. most take 10-14 days and some slow rooters take up to 3 weeks before t-planting
Oh .. After they root, and you take them out of the dome, slowly move them under the light maybe over 3-4 days, The cell walls become weak and will wilt quick as shit with delicate strains if placed under the light right away. and keep it cool after they come out of the dome, good luck man
