Cloning: from the top or bottom?

I was told by someone once to take the cuttings from the bottom of the plant, especially if cloning to create mothers... he said the genetics were more stable closer to the base of the plant.

Don't know if it is true or not, but sounding from this experiment it sounds like it has some truth to it. Also when a plant gets stressed or whatever, it usually shows around the top first and the main stalk or lower branches will be fine... usually - at least in my experience.

Interested in a update if you got one yo.

sorry for not getting back, was waiting to see how the clones that i took from the top would do....(m or maybe I was enthralled with watching the adventures of fdd and his harvest:mrgreen:)

So heres what I came up with:

Clones from the bottom rooted first for sure
clones from the middle second and the cuttings that I took from the top last.
But,
once the clones from the tops started rooting and I replanted them they bushed out a little quicker than the rest. But on the other hand it took longer for them to grow roots. So when I look at them side by side at this point (which is weeks later, sorry people:cry:) I really cant tell the difference except for the fact that I know which is which.

So for me, I am doin a rotating SOG, attempting to harvest every 2 weeks, I guess that I will continue to pull from the bottom since the roots came in about half the time. And when I clone for another mother plant though I will for sure pull from the top of the plant. Also because I can top the plant pretty far down and after I replant the mother clone I start out with a plant thats already almost 12 inches tall, if that makes any sense.

sorry it took so long to get back to ya, in the process of building a new setup and have been enthralled with the whole grow room.

How soon can you take clones from seedlings? Also what is the best cloning gel or powder to use on clones?
You can branch clone as soon as there at least 3 or 4 nodes up the stalk. Take the bottom ones. I use Olivia's cloning gel, works great. I haven't had clone that didn't take. :peace:
