Cloning Experement - Honey vs Schultz Take Root vs Clonex gel

Alright guys, my Tahoe OG from PO is a real bitch to clone! I have tried many combinations of things and best i've gotten is 3 weeks with weak root development in 8/10 after that time. Terrible!

So I am using [B3RNY]'s method from here -> https://www.rollitup.org/blogs/blog23811-b3rnys-cloning-method.html

Except that I am doing the experiment of Honey vs Schultz Take Root vs Clonex gel

This is purely for science as I dont need any cuts for a few weeks. But I do want to know what is the best of these 3.

Edit: I added water to the experiment as well, so we are now testing 4 compounds.
Pics are worth a thousand words. Here they are timestamped and I have nothing to gain by changing the clock on my camera FYI. I will update as time goes on... Pull out the bong & enjoy the show! bongsmilie:peace:

Rep + if you like the experiment!

Hey another PO grower! I'm flowering the last of the Tahoe OG I got from them awhile back. Great smoke, bitch to grow though. Weak stems, long internodes. The best luck I had cloning the Tahoe was just sticking the cuts straight into soil with nothing on them, better survival % and faster than rw and bubble cloner for me. Didnt use my root riots at all though. Good luck with your experiment, and the Tahoe :weed:

Got my cut from them back in Feb... She's prob about 7' now, It does have some long ass internodes... Any tips, my first batch of her is just now in the 1st week of veg. (rooting into the pots)

I'm doing root riots because I am a Coco hydro grower, so I guess this Tahoe will test my skills! I'd like to Scrog her but I cant (or at least i dont think i can lol) because i have separate veg & bloom rooms...:eyesmoke::weed:

Definitely just plan on having some type of support in place. Once they start to get top heavy those stems dont hold up. Keep your eye on some of the micros too, mine were finicky with fe/mn, ca, and mg levels. The ones I'm flowering now are in soil though and no issues whatsoever.

And yea scrogging can be a bitch with perpetuals and its alot of work, but I think it can definitely be worth it if you make it work. I have 2 different flower areas so I dont have to keep either one in 12/12 and I still get more frequent harvests.

I like how you concluded I have a perpetual... I have 3 lights to be exact. I was thinking one of those green nylon trellis nets. I could probably figure out some way of rigging up one of those. Maybe put it like a 2' up and move in 1' Tahoe plants. They should triple according to Swerve so that would put the trellis about 1' down from the tops theoretically and 1' up from where they would start stretching.

Do you think that would help/be worth rigging up? The bamboo stakes are a real bitch to put in as needed so i'd like to do something in advance this time since I already know they will be too top heavy to support themselves.

Curious to see how honey does :)
Me too!

very cool man im subbed to see how it goes :D
Well hopefully, LOL

I'll keep the updates and pics coming, thanks for the comments & Rep guys keep em coming! :)

I think i am going to make this a 2 part experiment. Once conclusions are made form the rooting compound portion I will work on a media test.
I'll take the winning rooting compound and do a controlled 3 media test.

Since I'm a Coco grower I'll try

A: Root Riots
B: Jilly Plugs
C: Canna Coco (same coco i grow in)

For the Coco i'll just compress it in the little plug holder tray holes. If it roots well it should make a nice little plug which could be easily and cleanly removed and transplanted. I'm determined to figure out how to get this Tahoe to root good!

These all work good but i use honey,i got some flowering og clones to root with-in 9 days.I used honey that had crystallized (sugars separated). I thought it was gonna take at least 2-4 weeks for any to root.I just dipped the (kinda woody/semi woody) stems and planted in soil.I don't know if the sugars being separated helped but it worked. :weed:

I am subbed! I am rooting for root riots lol. I am curious how the honey will do. I personally had no luck with clonex, I love Root Tech and a little bit of Olivia's cloning solution. Best one would be general Hydro's Rapid Start over Olivia's. Rapid start sure does make the roots come out thick and juicy and ready for an insane grow.

Glad to see you two gents over here! :D

Those leaves look mighty familiar.

Awesome. Subberino.
It's scary how much they look like the Louie!

I've tried Olivia's too... Should have thrown it in the mix, but i got 0/10 when i used it last time so I kind of thought it was a waste of time. You add rapid start to the water dont you? I have some of that, maybe i'll throw in a drop or 2 in the next gal i mix up. I think H&G Roots excelurtor is supposed to be the best water additive but it sure is crazy expensive at $70 for 250ml... And the shop was out of it last time I asked, im too broke to spring for the $140 half liter so I just said screw it LOL

I actually soak the cuttings and the plugs in Olivia's water and put them in the reservior for the first 5 days then switch to straight rapid start water at 1 ml a gallon with a little bit of thrive alive or Organic seaweed extract. I usually get 80% root rate with the Rapid start Olivia's is not necessarily the best, but it does work for me. How much of Olivia's per gallon were you using?

I have read a lot about roots excelurator but I didn't like the price. My Hydro shop guy is down to earth reccomended me to get the Rapid start since it was half the price and does the same thing for him.

I put up a nylon trellis in my 5x10 tent this round because I have 13 different strains and didnt want to deal with trying to support them individually after dealing with different stretch, and its worked out great so far. Nice and easy to raise it if and when you need to. I placed the first level, and as soon as the plants were all grown into it and spread evenly, I put the second level about 12" up and switched the lights over. Seems to be working pretty well. I'd still use at least one stake with each plant though. Every plant in my garden has a stake to help keep the trellis in place as well as give something to tie to later if needed.

Tahoe OG are front right. You can expect up to triple the size, but it depends how trained they are. More tops means less total stretch.

I'll be following for testing the medium after compounds too. +rep

I wasn't using the Olivia's liquid, i used the Olivia's cloning gel twice on 2 rounds of cuts and got like 0 out of 12 both times after multiple weeks. I think i'll add some Rapid Start to my babies that are in the coco right now, they could probably use it. I have it so why not. The cuts are and ones rooting in Coco are getting 60ml a gal of Rhizotonic right now which hopefully is plenty to get them rooted great. We'll see

Hey Mike91sr, Nice garden. Those Tahoe look nice! What's the big tall one in back? Thanks for the tips, i'll try to figure out a way of rigging up 2 nets in there if possible and throw a stake in each one once im done vegging.

Thanks for the Rep+! ... did you forget to hit the button though? LOL Anyway Rep+ back at ya for the advice and tips thanks!

can you do one cut with nothing on it?As I find some cuts do better with nothing added?
No absolutely not... I can do 2, here you go! These will be behind the other cuts by about 12-14 hours guys. Someone else mentioned that the best luck they had with the Tahoe was rooting with nothing at all, just sticking her right into the soil. Now that you said this also i couldn't resist the temptation. Honestly though im not expecting a whole lot compared to the other 3 test substances so I only did 2 cuts instead of 3. They are all getting thrown out anyways after the test.

I added 2 with nothing on them at all only water. They are both up front, to the left of the H and in between the H and S markers. The left one was soaked in RO water for 24 hours first up to the planting point on the stem so I did not shave the skin off it. The one to the right of H was cut, shaved, dipped in RO for 20 secs or so and stuck in the Root Riot. I gave them both 1 squirt of the Rhizo solution as all other cuts got once planted and they also got their mist with the bunch of them. The plugs will only get moistened by the mist and if they get pretty dry after a few days i'll give them a quick dip.

All cuts and inside the dome will be sprayed 3 times a day with very light nutrient solution comprised of mostly Canna Rhizotonic which is their rooting product. I'm using the Canna lineup so thats what they are getting.
