Yes but make sure you keep the light far enough away and you should be fine. :weed:

I have mine under the exact same set up in the corner of my flower room 400 w hps 19 hours of light, my clones are doing fine,,,, I actually put the ballast on its side and put the clone tray on top of it to heat it from the bottom, works well if you don't have a heating pad...

The 400W HPS will be fine for your clones. REMEMBER! If your light gets too close to the tops, you'll burn them. Without a vented hood, your gonna' want to keep them at a minimum of 12-18 inches form the light. If you can put your light about 3 feet from the tops, that's actually perfect for young clones. However, if you get yourself a vented hood, you can put the light ALOT closer. My 430W Son Agro HPS has a vented glass shroud surrounding it. I move one of my fresh air lines through it. By doing that I can cool the light exponentially. I'll send the link to where I got my light, so you can see what Im talking about. Notice the glass shroud is open on both ends for venting... http://www.stealthhydroponics.com/product.php?xProd=24&xSec=3

If you dont know already your light cycle dictates the stage of growth(Vegetative or Flowering) so yes, 18/6 is the proper light cycle for your plants, right now. When they've established themselves, you can then change them to a flowering photoperiod by changing them to 12/12. Your plants will finish between 8-13 weeks from switching to your 12/12 photoperiod.

Veg them under 18/6 for about 5 or 6 weeks, then change your timer on your light to 12 hours light, 12 hours dark, and you'll be a happy guy.

ya i have my 400 watt in a cool tube never gets hotter than 78 F/26C in the tent
It's not just the heat that will fry your clones. Too much light will fry them too. Clones don't need a lot of light when they are rooting. A couple of CFL's or shoplight, linear fluoros is all you need for clones. bongsmilie

It's been 12 years since their last login. Clones need minimal light til rooted & in a medium. Even then, low light is best imo. I've seen twisted growth on the top from giving them too much light. I use LED, and do fine with a 150w light dimmed to 25% at 2ft away until they get their roots going & grow more leaves.
