Citizen COBs with suplementation ssl80

Really want to replace the burple cobs in the HH. Maybe some Citizens I hear you guys talking about. I think they're running @ 30 watts so I'd have to find cobs that match the dimensions & current. Then pop them burple ones off n solder on some new ones. Then maybe that light will work.
Aren't the Citizens known for running on higher currents?
What's a good 60watt cob I could run @ 30?
You could take a look at the CLU048 1212. They have a forward voltage of around 36v (similar to the popular Cree CXB3590). Running them at 1050mA would output around 36W.

Do you think it really matters the details about the existing drivers? As long as I can get similiar wattage cobs that fit, I should be straight right?
But if its advantageous to find out the details while its open before buying the cobs, I will.
What do you think. Peep the drivers & currents before buying the cobs or it doesn't matter?

It matters.

What kind of "cobs" are in that thing? Those lenses look really small. That alone might limit your choices immediately.

Cobs aren't really rated by watts, except on Alibaba, and more importantly watts don't tell you what kind of driver goes with what cob. It's important to know what's going on in there, how many volts at what current.

Won't know till I take it apart. Using it now so won't be for 2 months. But I'll take note to make the decision. I think it will do awesome w/ white cobs around their spectrum. Not mono. All in one spectrum in the diodes & the cobs. W/ exception of 16, 660's. Pretty cool, just sucks as is.

If you put a Kill-a-Watt meter on it you'll probably find it only uses about half of the advertised wattage. Somebody probably pointed that out already but just in case. May be why it's sucking. I wouldn't bother trying to use the cheap driver for COBs. Just buy a GOOD driver instead if you go with COBs. Use that thing for supplemental light or something. No point tearing it open for parts really. If it had good parts maybe, but pretty sure it will have crap parts. I suppose it might be worth using on some cheap Citizen COBs. I wouldn't risk expensive COBs on it though.

For last few days i spend figure out how send any samples of my explosion light to US. And main problem was size and wight. So i start prototype new chasiss base on only 36cm long heatsink. To make it use some special thermal paste that we develop with my best friend on local Technical University IMG_2237.JPG

results is looks more than fine. with ambient temp 27-28C we got only 40C on heatsink ( with DeltaT 12C only) and Tc cob is 55C measure on cobs surface and similar 51C heatsink in mount cob place.

IMG_2229[1].JPG Power was set ~350W its 330W drop on cobs and is ~160W pure heat.

That make sense and allow keep weight and temp at low lev. So at the end the weight less than 9KG for 650W monster is in the reach.

Yeap next light will be 650W :) base on 6 CLU048 1818 and 72pcs SSL80 in newest power bin 3t-4t and 3s-4s...

I would defs take a look at what drivers it has inside before ordering anything. Like Jorge says COBs are rated by volts - Watts are just a result of how hard you choose to drive them.

Man loving that heatsink/cob/ambient heat output test, really need some more of those tests done around here :D

How many of each 3t-4t / 3s-4s SSL80's were you going to use per cob?

because newest ssl80 have more power output and ill use not 4 cobs but 6 cobs so i decide use 4pcs 730nm bin 3s-4s and 8pcs 660nm bin 3t-4t for every cob led.
Another nice feature will be power reduction and switch red boost quite important in early phase vegetation
Im super excited, If you're going with 4 cobs you could go with the 1825's instead as they'll be slightly more efficient at 100-150w

How are you gonna set up the ssl80's, in a ring around the cobs or in straight lines?

@rxr2 , is this your actual design? Will you be patenting it if so? That would be a good idea. As it is, I'm sure others are trying to build these supplemented Cobs now, just off reading your thread.
Have you ever had anyone grow cannabis w/ it yet? I noticed only the Xplosion had them. Did you build lights for general purpose growing & the Xplosion for Cannabis? I ask because I'm not sure the far red & red is beneficial for all plants. I don't know though.
Will you be implementing the ssl80's into your 2 smaller fixtures?
How are you making out w/ the 600+ watt light you're trying to make lighter for shipping purposes?

is there a way to buy some of your lenses and a few of this amazing COB supplementing boards?
It's exactly what I've been looking for since a long time and worth every penny as it allows all the LEDs to be under one big lens.
I already visited your website and also your local distributor, but could not find anything about it.
I could imagine there is a great demand when you decide to make these boards accessible to DIY'ers.
