chopping in moon phase

high guys :leaf:

nov 2nd at 14:14 will be waxing moon. as the disseminating stage is perferct for ripening, I would like to know when the best time to chop around this period will be???

also, i plan to put my girl in 24-48 hr darkness. do I want to do this and time it so when the dark period is over, the moon is near phase??? or should I keep it on normal cycle until the 2nd, and then give dark period???

im also guessing its best to destroy after the phase, rather then b4, to allow full ripening of the buds.

would like to hear some past experiences on this!!! will a plant still be able to ripen without sunlight after it goes into the dark period??

I've got the same gameplan juggy. From all I've read they say just after the full moon is the best time. That might mean the day after but I'm probably gonna chop next wednesday or thursday anyways. She is ready to come down now but wanna give her that extra bit of time to see if it makes a difference.

I wish I had a more experienced answer for ya but im a first timer, so we're in the same boat :D

ok cool. ya my girl is still swelling atm, so im thinking ill let her go till the 2nd, then place her in dark period. 72 hrs just seems insane, i think ill go with 48 hours, then she will be ready to chop late wednesday evening :leaf:

sounds like we will have some smoke ready around the same time! where u located?? south western ontario here.

72 hrs is a long time. The whole dark period thing sounds interesting. It seems a lot of people are trying it out. I'm not doing it myself. I'd be interested to see how much it increases THC.

It seems there are a lot of growers from Ontario on here. Is it a big MJ state? I'm a European grower myself. It's cold, wet and windy. Far from ideal, but hey it works, and I've the plants to prove it! Just getting the drying area ready now with appropriate heat and humidity. I'm hoping the less than ideal conditions won't induce mold or anything. Any tips on improving drying area conditions?

You said you're chopping your girl at night? I was gonna go for a morning harvest.

ahh yes. now that u say that, i did read that morning harvests were best. but I believe that was because the plant had all night to regenerate the THC crystals that acted as sun block.

i was thinking that the dark period would eliminate the need to chop in the morning. that way i can trim @ night with no sunlight ;-)

post some pics of your buds when they are ready :bigjoint:

I got a pic of my girl in my albums. Purple Pineberry ;) ...She looks nice and smells great. Hopefully will be good smoke. I'll get more up when she's done.

eh! menno! :bigjoint:

did u get that all taken care of?? i let my gurl get her last day of light on the 3rd, and she was havested the morning of the 5th :leaf:

my dry area is not as ideal as yours, it dont know the humidity unfortunately, altho i know its dry, and it is about 10 deg in there :(

I harvested earlier this week. I was gonna let her go an extra but I found a bit of mould :S It was alright just a tiny bit so I cut it out and hung her up to dry. The smell when harvesting was incredible. A really sweet berry aroma which made me feel like I picked at the right time. She is 4 days drying now and some of the popcorn buds are just about ready to go into curing I think. The buds are crispy and smell kinda grassy now and the stems bends but don't break. There is a few more pics on my profile now. Not gonna be a huge yield unfortunately. The lack of sunny weather means its hard to get a huge yield even with proper soil and nutes.

I even had tried my hand at bubblehash! I took one hit from the lower grade stuff last night and I got nicely high ;)

How is plant drying? Were you happy with the harvest? Contrary to some things I've heard, a mini heater works wonders in a drying area. That's what tipped the scales for me. When I added one in my temps went from 9C to 15C and humidity from 80% down to 65%, just from adding a heater! I have a fan going in there as well just in case.

If you want the full effect of the dark period, go 72 hours. Not sure why you would stop at 24 or 48 unless you were forced.
