Choosing a rosin press

I am ready to buy one soon but don’t know much about pressing. I was thinking of nug smasher mini or dabpress. Then read that nug smasher isn’t that strong so leaning towards 10 tons dabpress.

Perhaps yall can help me figure out what to choose but I am sure cannot go wrong with either one. Just don’t want it to be too big or small after the fact. Costly machines.

I will probably not have much yield to press for a while like 4-8oz every 5 months so I thought the NS mini was good fit. I want good yield like 1g per 3.5g flower.

I want best quality mesh bags too that don’t blow out. Any brand suggestions? Would be nice if I could press older cured weed too which NS mini people said might be an issue being only 2 tons.

Real excited for this, I don’t really smoke weed anymore and so this would make growing as fun as possible. I love hash!

I have the Dulytek DHP5 Hydraulic Heat Press, 5 Ton Pressing Force, Dual Heat 3" x 4" Plates - Precise Two-Channel Control Panel I got from Amazon. I have used it a couple of times and haven’t really got the hang of it. I would rather do a blast run and make bho.
I think if I could turn the clock back I probably would have spent more on a better press. An electric press instead of hydraulic and more pressing force.
As far as blow outs, you should be fine by pressing slowly and letting everything heat up a bit before going full press.

I wish I could have tried a few differently models before purchasing lol

also the dulytek I have is pretty much portable. You go too much bigger than that and it will stay at home.

I also bought a Dulytek 5 Ton. Was real disappointed at first because I was having issues with the learning curve. I too wish I bought maybe a stronger /better quality one. I have gotten real good at pressing bubble hash with it. Never could get the hang of pressing flower with it--had to do small presses to get good return. I will say that now I am stuck on the live rosin pressing I am pleased with this little jack for what I paid for it. Bags start to get costly quick. I used the Dulytek bags that came with it and am now using press club bags. Couldn't really tell the difference. If I was pressing just flower this little press wouldn't do it

See that is why I asked, I don’t want that to happen to me. I meant also by the way that I wanted half gram per 3.5g flower, not a whole gram.

So that is two reviews for suggesting more pressure and also electric vs hydraulic. The dabpress is 10 tons but it is hydraulic. Also 600$ just about instead of 420$ for NS mini 2 tons. Or a little more for dulytech if I recall price correctly.

I will be pressing flower and probably just flower. Bho is dangerous and requires an oven or so to vape off butane and just cannot do it, I prefer rosin. Though I may step up to hash rosin one day.

I did read that more pressure isnt always more yield but I am sure there is a difference between 2 and 5 and 10 tons. I won’t be yielding a whole lot per grow so I wonder how trialing and error a large bag in a dabpress vs trial and error in small amounts with the NS mini would go.

I don’t want to spend all day pressing for half g at a time either. Decisions decisions… Like I said, after seeing pics of reviews of presses, I think I will be happy with either one of the bigger ones. I am taking a couple months to consider as I have no yield right now anyway.

I have a Dulytek 7 ton. I bought it second hand for $50

7 tons is enough to squish flower. Yields are so so with flower but I only squish once at low temps.

old flower doesn’t press as well as fresh stuff. It comes out darker and with different texture consistency; usually more tough, shatter like. I plan on turning my old stuff to hash before pressing it.

if I had to buy new, I would get the dabpress 10ton with the hand pump. If money was a concern I would get the dabpress 6ton. Dabpress does refurbished units every so often as well.

Awesome. I know rosin yields can be low and not to expect much until I get some experience in. As well with growing. I could press larger amounts at once just to be done with it and get what I get. I thought I read you can press 20gs at once with dabpress.

Very informal, thanks. I did ask about older dry herb, good to know. Some one reviewed saying you need fresh grown for rosin or else 2 tons won’t work well for old cured weed.

Costs aren’t a concern if I have the extra money and will be happy with the unit as if it is another weed device like the puffco peak or volcanoe dry herb vape etc. Under 1000$ though.

I like to press around 7grams at a time. This usually yields a little over a gram. It only takes 10 minutes to so I like the small batches.

flower rosin is alright but it’s all about hash rosin and fresh frozen hash rosin. I’m learning it’s a bit of an art.

one reason I suggest the 10ton press is because it has a pressure dial on it. It’s not necessary at all but I like to nerd out and knowing the exact pressure I used would be neat.

Nice, yeah I personally started only dabbing, no weed for 6 months straight. I started with cheap but quality bho then learned about live resin upon noticing a random choice to buy it led to me using just that for like 4 months straight.

Noticed I got a fuller, longer lasting high even though it was 60% thc so it took time to get used to. Now they ran out of cheap quality live resin and back to bho and stand by what I said, it is empty high that fades quick, takes more even though it is 80%thc.

Rosin is not affordable yet but tried rosin and hash rosin and recall it being like live resin. More lively than high thc bho. Not to knock bho, It just triggers my fiend and tolerance issues I sometimes get. So pressing hash is something I am interested in.

Just need to start somewhere and I think the dabpress I likely will go with. Perhaps trial and error 7g bags and then do the rest in 14-20gs to make use of the bigger plates unless I shouldn’t. Lots of learning to do, will post in this section to learn more as I go along when I have yield and press.

Highly considering setting up another tent for more yield for this. Most likely will get a 3x3.

For similar prices to some of those Nugsmashers, you can DIY your own setup. This dake auto h-frame press has a pressure gauge which is going to make your life much easier (no guess work about how much pressure you're applying). My friend has a NS and the difference in ease of use and end-product is night and day. This setup is a dream to use.

I do however like the Nugsmasher bags. I do the bottle tek thing. I have all different microns but the 90 is my go-to.

Also, very important, get some GOOD parchment paper. If it comes in a roll from the grocery store, it's probably not good. Crappy parchment can tear/rip easily, and I've made plenty a mess using cheap parchment. I got this off Amazon and it's wonderful stuff. I cut them in half so they're 6" x 16" and then folded in half for pressing.

I heard of people using dake but am looking for more of a out of the bag setup, something servicable and under 1k$ that can get me started on enjoying growing and upgrade later when I start to get the basics and what I am after.

Like if I wanted to get that setup I would need to know where all those items are at, is it under 1k$, what makes it better, just many questions and depends on what answers I have left with afterwards will determine if I buy the setup.

I have questions I don’t even know yet haha, this thread sums up everything I know so far. I recently looked into this because I saw the yield, though low, if I could get the yield, this would be killer if I got close to 1g per 7gs flower.

You can get those yields easily, so long as you are pressing good quality bud. Freshly dried bud is my favorite....yum!!

There are cheaper options from NS and DP. I'm specifically comparing my setup to the NS my friend has. We both paid right around $1100 in the end.

The biggest difference is in ease of use. Having that large lever is nice compared to the screw action presses. Having the pressure gauge takes all the guess work out of it. Also you hear a lot about tonnage (5T vs 10T vs 20T etc). My press is rated up to 16T, but I would never press above ~3T. 2.5T is usually the sweet spot. I think those max tonnage values say more about the overall robustness and ease of applying pressure, since no one is pressing at those high values anyway.

My dab press. I'd like to add a pressure gauge and an electric activated pump and foot peddle, maybe Christmas. Love your set up @MtRainDog

I bought a 6 ton dab press with the steel frame and dual heated plates for $400 , I use it more than any tool I own I plan on building my own next but I do not regret buying the 6 ton I can make above top shelf product at home I've done flower and tons of bubble hash even did mechanical seperation to pull the terms out you can do anything with that press I would definitely recommend. Lower Temps higher pressure always better for me like 165° I'm doing some tomorrow ill try to take pics
