Chinese Bagseed Grow and Light Test

Five weeks old and the first week of flowering is through. Still not 100% sure of their genders, but I'm confident that they're females.

Poor mint is developing some kind of burns on her leaves. I'm fairly certain this is because of the alcohol I've been spraying on them. The mite infestation is under control, but it's still there. I've been misting them with rubbing alcohol and soda water every two or three days. Oddly, Mint seems least effected by the mites.

A4 is handling the misting perfectly well, but she seems to be the favorite target of the mites. I'm certain they're coming from the Swazi though. Because it's been kept low and bushy, it's harder to get all the nooks and crannies.

A4 is 25cm tall.
Mint is 23cm tall.

The clones I took are still alive and doing well, however I've got a new threat in my home. Mold. A white mold is covering the top of the dirt whenever it's the least bit moist. This mold is in all of the pots in all of my house. However, the mold doesn't seem to be doing anything to my plants, so I'm still looking into the matter. All of the clones cups have the mold. It's coming down to a waiting game to see if the mold will effect the plants, or if will turn out to be benign.

If anyone has tips for mold or any more specific ideas of what could be burning poor Mint, let me know.

And here are some pictures.

How do you know your seeds arent swedish?
1. I live in China.
2. The seeds came from bags of dirt weed.
3. My dealer said the weed was from Guangzhou, which is where a lot of marijuana in China comes from. Like Mexico for the US, but in the same country.

I doubt that a Chinese guy is going to order seeds from Europe, when there are plenty of good strains growing wild down where he is.

I'm going to let them flower for about 4 weeks total. If I was going for massive buds, I'd actually go out and make the effort to buy a ballast and an HID light. For now, I'm happy with what I have. I haven't seen bud in China, myself. I've been told that it goes for about 150 kuai a gram though. That's about $23 a gram for westerners.

I'm not worried about getting caught. Everything I grow is for personal smoke. I share with a couple friends, and sell them a bit on occasion, but I don't make it known to other foreigners that I know anything about weed.

I'm going to do one more set of pictures and measurements later today. Then, on the 8th, I'm going to put them both into 12/12 with another plant I've been growing. They're all different kinds of plants, so it will be fun to see how they differ in flowering.

What? Why grow it then? What's the point? Are you gunna get MAD stoned on pistills with no trichomes... no bud.... ...

science maybe? the study of lighting affects...

Now thats gotta be one of the stupidist things i've EVER heard....

Grow it out in veg - study the shit out of it if you want.... but then flower it too and at least have the possibility of smoke... whats the point of going through the risk just to watch a ganja plant NOT get you stoned.

fucking hell

Why flower it at all... just kill it now!!!!!

ganjman, that was probably a typo. I meant to say that I intend to let them veg for four weeks. I'm going to let them flower for as long as they need. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Unfortunately, due to the plants being too completely fucking different, my attempt to study lighting will have to wait for another grow. I've got about 200W of CFLs in my closet, and I've flowered with them before, so I have no doubt that I will get some decent smoke out of this. It's not dank by any means, but a HID light and ballast are just not options at the moment.

Sorry for the drama.

any growth between branches yet? im sure you have stipules by now but you havent seen any pistils or balls forming right. i did some research and i guess it takes a whole 3 years to grow good sized peyote caps, so i guess you can either eat premature caps before you go (make it a week before you go, cuz if you take it the night before youll go crazy on the streets of china, i can imagine having a spirit journy and forgeting you were going somewhere). good luck with your plants man they look good, you have a strong sativa and an indica/sativa mix goin on. good work on the lst, i cant even see where the stem comes out of the pot

Seeds I have with good genetics:
1. White Widow (Grass City :P)
2. Blue Mystic (Nirvana)
3. Afghan (Nirvana)
4. Diesel Ryder (Joint Doctor)
5. Malonica (Crazy X Seeds)

All of these "good genetics" were landraces or bagseed at one point. Seedbanks didn't just pop up out of nowhere with dank weed. It all came from somewhere.

I'm growing the bagseed right now because I enjoy it, it's alway a surprise to see what the plant is like, and because you can get some good weed from it. The plants I'm growing look to be doing very well for what I have, and they both have interesting traits that I'd like to save for later grows. Just because it comes from shitty schwag doesn't always mean it's going to grow into a bad plant. Schwag is schwag because it was grown badly and handled even worse. With some care, I'm confident that I can make some good plants here.

But, if it makes you feel better, I've got some of my good genetics in veg at the moment, and I'll be starting a perpetual harvest type setup once these girls are done flowering.

Ok. It's been a while since I updated. Blame a mixture of laziness and business.

Minty has fully regained the lead in height at a whopping 68 cm.
A4 is still impressive at 62cm.
I'm glad I only let them veg for four weeks. They'd be huge now if I let them grow longer.

They've both shown sex as female, so I'm in a great mood. They Swazi friend, however, decided to be a boy, so we had a tearful goodbye and I cut him off.

I'm beginning too think Minty is part bamboo. She's growing straight up, with no signs of stopping. She was the first to fully show sex, so I'm hoping for no more than 10 total weeks of flower.
A4 is being weird as usual. Growing a bit to the left, then a bit to the right. Her leaves are extrordinarily thin and dagger-like. I measured a middle finger near the top. 15cm long, and only about 1 or 2cm wide. the total width of that leaf was about 20cm. Because it took a bit longer to show sex, I'm expecting her to take longer to finish flowering. I hope she's not some supertropical strain that takes 14+ weeks to flower.

The pictures aren't that great, but my battery was dieing. The last one really shows A4's sativa~ness.

how was that diesel ryder china?

I was quite happy with it. They went through a lot of rough spots during the grow, but everyone I smoked it with said it was pretty good. they all stayed about a foot tall, and had little branching. If they were grown with a full hydro setup, they would probably form into one giant cola. I'm already growing two more with the seeds I made in the first round.

wow never seen leaves that skinny but it looks kinda tight
I was amazed to see them as well. I'm not sure what it's a sign of, but it's definitely an interesting trait.

So far they're doing well. The cola are forming nicely on both of them. Minty's is the biggest, but it got to close to the CFL and was a little bit singed. I hope it won't stunt the growth too much. Sometimes I forget that 65 watt CFLS get quite a bit hotter than 26 watt ones.

I've been considering attempting to make feminizedseeds with these two, but I have enough bagseed left that I can afford to experiment later on. I'm dry at the moment, so I want as much pure bud as I can get.

COOL STORY TIME!!!

A couple days ago I got a message from a girl who works at the local TV station. It's another (boring) story why they have my cell phone number in the first place, but they have it. Somehow, one of the interns who works there got it and decided to start texting me. We decided to meet up at a Starbucks and have coffee together. (I hate Starbucks and coffee altogether, but I didn't tell her that.) This Starbucks is in the literal center of the city. We met up, chatted and had a pleasant time.

We talked for a couple hours, and I saw her off at the bus stop around 10:30 PM. Since I was in the middle of the city, I decided I would go to one of the dance clubs nearby. It was still too early for the clubs, however, so I decided to walk over to one of the hostels to see if anyone I recognized was there.

As I walked down the road, I noticed a strange bush in one of the lesser tended grassy areas. (The kind cities have to make them look a little less bleak.) I approached it, and in the dusk light I examined it. IT WAS FUCKING WEED!! Right in the middle of the city! Right along one of, if not THE, busiest roads! Barely 100 feet away from where a little police booth stands! Cannabis! Marijuana! Right there in all it's glory!

Now before you get you're hopes up, one of the first things I noticed was that it was a male. But that's beside the point. Everyone knows China has strict drug laws. Not as harsh as most people think, but still harsh. The point is, that in the middle of a city with over eight million people, there is an illegal substance, growing in plain sight!

The plant itself is fairly interesting too. It's got that mutation where it grows less fingers per leaf, and they're not spread out. The stem is thicker than my thumb, and it's probably a good 5 feet tall.

I didn't have my camera that night, but I went back the next day and got some pictures. And three clippings. I collected a little bit of pollen, and I'm attempting to seed up some of A4s lower branches. If I can stabilize this males leaf patern, with A4's extra long and slender leaves, I'll be quite happy. This could be the beginning of a very long breeding project.

Here are some pictures.
