You'll get more bang/$ out of strips ime.

I run 3590s@ 20W/ea over my flower canopy and they work beautifully. Money would have gone quite a lot further and could have built a far superior light(s) if I had allocated the same budget towards a strip(s) build.
What strips would you recommend? Im looking to build an led light for a 4x4. I would go with qbs, cobs, or strips.

I really like not having to heatsink the Bridgelux EB gen2 strips. These are the only strips I've experience with and only can compare using them vs COBs (3590) and screw in LEDs (which are a surprisingly good bang for $ and readily available tho I have experienced failures)

I run Samsung F series gen 3s. Single row 3000k 10 of them in a 2x4x6 tent. On a hlg320 in parallel. The 560mm strips turn the 2 foot way, and 5 solskin qb96s dual row

In 2700k, with 4 strips in red. With 60 far red, and 60 deep red diodes. . I flower 3-4 plants at a time. 1 and 2 gal pots. Pulling 6zips per plant on average
All controlled by sonoff wireless controllers. Each channel the single samsungs can be turned on n off, the solskins on or off. Or the reds. No timers. All setup through sonoffs app. As long as I phone service I know temp and humi CSN shut the entire setups down. Running 3 tents veg, flower, flower. And 1 male/female breeding tent. I used 2x2 extruded alum tubing cut 3 sides of it. Clear through left one side solid. Our 50mmx50mm PC fans in one end. Blows through the square tubing cooling the led strips. The solskins are run on hlg 240 the reds are on a hlg60. Everything is parallel. I have less than 500 in everything.

I love it.

Before the solskins added.

I got everything through arrow and digikey. And the wireless switches through sonoff. I have control over everything that runs off of 120v. My fans kick on and off by setting temp settings. My humidifiers and dehumidifiers kick on and off by settings too. You can set points. If the humidity reaches a certain point the dehumidifier will kick on and run until it gets to low shut off. If temp gets to high it kicks fans on or off. Same as with heaters. All controlled through an app on my phone. I have no external timers anymore. You can set trigger points for anything. And they are super cheap.

Nice setup!

Those red strips, are they from cutter.com.au? As in same as the solskin boards?
Can you give some info on the strips as specs and price?

Edit: is it just a trick of the eye, or are all the leds red? Or you have some warmwhites?
No the red strips I had made. I ordered copper pcbs. And individual diodes. A buddy of mine soldered them in for me. Theres 120 diodes on the reds. 60 deep red and 60 far reds. They are alternated for even blending. The single row leds are 3000k and the dual row (solskins) are 2700k.

Edit: I got my strips cheap. Before everyone started using Samsung gen 3s. I paid 8.15 a strip for the single row Samsung f series. I bought 15 of them. Jus to have extras. I got the solskins from a buddy I got 7 total of them for 80 bucks shipped to my door. And i have about 75 bucks in my reds. Dude soldered them for product. The tubing i have all kinds of. I have flat bar, angle, 1x2,2x2,3x3 square tubing heavy wall and thick wall. I used thick wall. And made them 23 1/2 inches long. Cut them with a chop saw every inch. But only on 3 sides. And mounted the strips with thermal tape and machine screws to the uncut side. I think about 445 bucks in the total build. That includes buying the fans, wire, wago connectors, Strips both sets. And the wireless switches. But I ordered extra switches. For our house. We can turn any light on in our house. At any time. As long as our phone has service. That way we dont come home to a dark house. Forgot to turn the porch light on and outside driveway lights. No problem hit a button on my phone or the ol ladys. And they are on.

So aprox 20% deep red and far red total. Very good deal on the reds if they are decent diodes. What differences did you notice after adding the red?

Yield and trich production went up. More so on the trich production. I have a mother plant that I run a few times that's is great. But after I added the reds. The trich production was so much better. And the plant responded better. I do 15 mins of just reds on when the lights come on. Then the reds stay on the whole time. Then at lights off everything but the reds shut off for the last 15 mins. Yield went up maybe 5-10% not real sure. Bc I run multiple strains. And dont run the same thing very often. But trich production was completely noticeable by eye.

It would be cool to see a side by side of the spectrums between V.1 and V.2 of the growmau5 boards. Having the 35 4000K diodes included in the mix really seems like a smart way to balance them out to be more useful.

You can save a little money with LED strips but here's my $0.02: If everyone on here buys even a few logic pucks and/or PLC photoboost strips, the extra money will help them hire more people. More workers could equal more time to make cool videos that make us all better builders and better growers. (I don't know them and my only vested interest is that I enjoy the videos and product innovation.)

I bought 4 of the growmau5 V2 board/sink combos
